I'll get right on that after somebody with a bare plot of buildable land in Manhattan offers to trade with me
vladimir.theatl.social
has for now, it's ending physical copies at the end of the year

I'm familiar and that's not how property values actually tend to work. SFHs of a given size on a given amount of land tend to be much more valuable if they're close to multiunit housing, retail, and workplaces.

Yes, and congratulations it's a good step.

It's not a particularly representative democracy, many sandy springs residents are renters and they are largely excluded. Plus of course children. Even among the mayoral candidates currently in office, she is an outlier when it comes to comments like this about renters (including her constituents).

Sorry no, if it was about keeping property values high the local governments (here or in the bay) would not ban homeowners from selling to developers who wanted to invest in more density. This has been a thin smokescreen for a hundred years of exclusionary zoning.

sitting council member, one of four candidates for mayor. There aren't enough sandy springs people here for me to get into it but she does not have my vote.

the mayoral forums spent more time on schools and restaurants than on housing. If we lose our neighbors who live in apartments then we're also going to lose schools and restaurants, no matter what school district reorg or business development a candidate promises. 2/2

"It's unfortunate that we do have 300 apartments now instead of a state of the art pickleball racquet center"

a mayoral candidate talking about 300 households that way is displacing my other thoughts about #SandySprings elections. Read There is No Place for Us by @brian-goldstone.bsky.social . 1/2

Build it all, but to give an example of what I mean about prioritizing municipal level improvements first: Dunwoody MARTA station has large multiunit housing structures blocked off by a five lane street. Better train service to ATL is kinda wasted if Dunwoody does not want residents to use it.

Eventually yes but there's a long way to go. Paris metro has roughly 2x the population of metro Atlanta, and there's a lot more density and transit connectivity to support non-driving commutes in Paris. City of Atlanta and outliers need to build transit and TOD, and then connect with regional rail.

MARTA bus driver recognized me riding alone and asked about the kids, don't get that from a car
vladimir.theatl.social
Oh good.
The first mayoral debate was underwhelming. Fundraising isn't the most appealing topic abstractly speaking, but any sort of coverage and engagement is nice when we have so little.
vladimir.theatl.social
That's too bad, I'd be curious to see about that mayoral race.

I got mine last week but, do we have to wait until after cars are gone to use the stickers?

Yeah I made that distinction a little more on the blog.
"Some seniors are displaced purely due to financial need, and they are disproportionately renters rather than home owners. This policy does nothing for them."
