We are aware of the train failure incident last night and look forward to receiving full details from VIA regarding the cause of the problem. Canada needs to adequately fund its passenger railway so standby locomotives are available to rescue failed trains.

I am so goddamned tired of this councillor. First to point the finger, the last to come up with a solution. Doesn't think we can spend money to get good services, but has the gall to criticize other councillors for wanting funding to address issues in their wards. So, a thread:

@mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social We just gave OPS a large budget increase for what again? Didn't the Province give us funding for a Market police detachment? Oh, and we don't have $1M for Line 1 five minute service? Come on.

Delaying the project to get real-time train locations in transit apps and delaying bus lane construction are not savings or efficiencies. These costs will be still paid, just later at a higher cost
Aside from those "efficiencies", how much of the $252M saved over 4 years is from deferred capital projects? In 2025 alone, there were $21.3M in deferred capital transit projects. Deferred capital projects are not savings; they are cost avoidance. We didn't save money; we postponed spending it. 6/
