Cool.
Paintings of Stonehenge by Victorian women are rare, and these details are tantalising: could this be Elizabeth Russell, Duchess of Bedford (1818-1897) and her daughter Lady Ermyntrude Russell (1856-1927)? Such precious women's artwork needs to be in the Wiltshire Museum collection.

You might want to block these too. The Drump admin has entered the sky. I blocked them all. Did not subscribe but the list is accurate.

It's #DictionaryDay, so, naturally, I'll tout my own Victorian death dictionary, with its list of topics, so brilliantly illustrated by @landisblair.bsky.social. Available worldwide, so your local bookstore or library can easily order it.
In search of matching salt and pepper shakers.
Or Vice, at the very least. 🙄
Perhaps. I have a thing for Carmen Miranda stuff. Always on lookout 👀 . Especially for Bugs Bunny in drag.
I found a sweet little Carmen Miranda baby doll at the flea market. What a cutie pie!

Did you know?

In the Victorian era, mummers carried on the ancient English tradition of performing short plays and songs in disguise.

Clad in ragged ribbons, and paper costumes to conceal their identities, they were both festive and mysterious.

Day 7 of #31DaysOfGraves - Angel

Angels come in so many different shapes and sizes in Scottish graveyards, we've opted for this Victorian Gothic form, sitting in the shadow of Glasgow Cathedral, forever gently dropping stone flower petals onto the graves of the Smith family below...

Now, more than ever, we need you NPR. Ramp up reporting actions, not just what people say.

In other words, pleas redouble your efforts to report full, comprehensive truth. No more both-sides caca. No more mealymouth sentences to gentle-down the brutality of the truth.

TRUTH IS UNDER ASSAULT.

I don’t doubt you. As a Catholic myself, I feel that any religion can have extremists. However, Evangelicals take the prize in this country for having the most that are Cuckoo for Coca Puffs. They’re fargin scary.
Catholics too. They’re like warring tribes. Unless they can use one another.
If you’re not opposed to preowned, try your luck stalking sites like Poshmark and Ebay.

Please read our amazing RA @helenvmurray.bsky.social's evocative blog post on the @victorianhand.bsky.social website, which conjures the tactile, time-spanning qualities of G F Watts' affecting hand casts. As she points out, they were a big influence on the conception of the whole project.
Time feels tangible in these casts...
Over on the Victorian Hand project blog, our Research Associate @helenvmurray.bsky.social reflects on her trip to Watts Gallery to research their extensive collection of plaster cast hands..

My etsy store called The McThrifty (www.etsy.com/shop/TheMcTh...) sells literary, feminist, boho & victorian punk POD items. This $ goes to me. 😉

Some of these items will also be in the e(i store (engineidling.net/store) as part of a fundraising effort. This $ goes to contribs & a 🤞future contest!
Oh my!
I absolutely *adore* these sorts of things. From medieval through Victorian, chatelaines, sewing kits, travel cosmetic and toiletry kits. They're all just so cool!
The Lady's Companion, a series of small kits containing things a Victorian woman would have carried in the mid-19th century: sewing kit, notions, small notebook, scent bottle, corkscrews, and ear picks. Currently on display at the Tatter Library in Brooklyn
