William Randolph Hearst sold papers with giant headlines over lurid stories, crime, corruption, sex, and innuendo.
Hearst was, to Orson Welles, an abomination.
Cecilia Ager, reviewing Citizen Kane in PM Magazine, wrote: "Seeing it, it's as if you never really saw a movie before."

Cecilia Ager, reviewing Citizen Kane in PM Magazine, wrote: "Seeing it, it's as if you never really saw a movie before." Where's our Welles? It was a fight from which neither man ever fully recovered. Hollywood executives tried to buy Citizen Kane to burn the negative. Exhibitors were intimidated. There were threats of blackmail, smears in newspapers and FBI investigations were opened. Decades passed until Citizen Kane was revived, until Orson Welles wasvrecignized for creating one of cinema's great masterpieces.
