Iceland, one of the last places on Earth to be mosquito-free, recorded its first sighting this month.

Scientists say warming is making the country more hospitable to the insects.

Mosquito abatement districts across Utah use Integrated Mosquito Management, or IMM. IMM uses a combination of methods to help reduce mosquitoes. Check out this page on the CDC website to learn more about it! www.cdc.gov/mosquitoes/p...
Use these suggestions to reduce and avoid #mosquito bites! There have already been 28 human cases of West Nile virus this mosquito season so be sure you're protecting yourself. Share with your friends & family to prevent bites. 🦟

Mosquito abatement districts in Utah, including SLCMAD, have been detecting recent positive mosquito samples of St. Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV). It is not new to the U.S., & has been detected in Utah before. Like WNV, there is no vaccine to prevent SLEV. Remember to prevent mosquito bites! 🦟
The Salt Lake County Health Department announced today the first human case of WNV in Utah this year. Public health's investigation has determined they were likely infected in late July near the Jordan River in the southern half of Salt Lake County.

Check out the items highlighted in yellow. Do you have any of these around your property? If so, you may want to check 'em out for standing water! Mosquito larvae require standing water in order to survive and grow.
Mosquitoes have four stages of their life cycle and the first three take place in the water. It's important to remember to check your property for standing or stagnant water at least once a week to reduce mosquitoes!
Utah has many mosquito abatement districts (MAD) across the region. Check out umaa.org to find your local MAD and check out AMCA's new website, Yesterday's Threat Today's Solution to find more mosquito prevention information.

It's the last day of February! Spring is around the corner, and soon mosquitoes will be, too. 🦟 Be proactive and be prepared to prevent mosquito bites once the weather gets warmer. ☀️

Many of the Utah districts attended the West Central MVCA joint meeting with the Wyoming Mosquito & Vector Control Association last week!

Participating in these meetings are valuable and allow different regions to come together to continue improving vector programs and protect public health.🦟
The West Central Mosquito & Vector Control Association + Wyoming Mosquito Management Association are combining forces this year for their annual meetings! Taking place at the Snow King Resort in Jackson, WY from February 19-20; learn more here: www.wcmvca.org.

Please share. I'm recruiting up to 2 grad students to join my lab this fall and work on litter inverts or mosquitoes in Puerto Rico (summer start date possible). I am NOT taking non-U.S. students. Either student should have interests and background in ecology of insects. Details in ad.🦟🐜🪳🇵🇷🌴
