We've been in bureaucracy hell trying to get ON to SNAP for the past several months, and I doubt we'll get anywhere with
this shitshow.
So many people are so desperate for a not-establishment figure that the amount of cope they'll deal with in order to cling to their fantasy is really something.
Yes! Exactly.

I believe in redemption arcs and I believe people can change.

Fucking. Earn. It. Do better. Don't coast by on your white mediocrity and expect it to carry you forward. It's not purity testing in this instance, it's showing fucking character development and growth.
I think the white guys defending Platner's tattoo are bristling under the idea that white guys should have to make an effort (or even NOT do something) to show that they are good people. This conveniently forgets that nobody else gets nearly as much "benefit of the doubt" as they do.
Casual reminder that the Black Sun is NOT an appropriated symbol, though it is a design inspired by things like Alemannic sun wheels. It's 100% a Nazi symbol in origin, too, and cannot be 'rehabilitated'.
Platner's not like someone who got really deep into Norse Paganism when they were a kid and got a Black Sun tattoo because they were mislead to believe that the Black Sun was an appropriated symbol (I've seen this argument in person).
It'll be interesting to see how many of his followers who have been sharing Chumbawamba's "Nazi" song that's made its resurgence earlier this year will continue to hang on to Platner's campaign despite these (and other) very clear problems.
He might have gotten it while he was dumb and young, but he allegedly knew about the problem for at least half the time he's had it.

I think there was a very narrow window of opportunity for him to get out of this (mostly) intact, but I think that's largely closed, now.

The Totenkopf is a pretty damning, very specific, symbol on its own. It's not a dog whistle like a necklace of eight pointed lightning bolts with fourteen chain links. It's a very specific, visible, symbol
"Life got in the way, it never came up, I acted in such a way that people around me knew I wasn't a Nazi or sympathizer" works for cringe tattoos, not Nazi ones.
Regarding Platner, as someone with tattoos and is a Heathen (and thus, runs a higher-than-average-risk of having symbols either be interpreted to be Nazi adjacent or have been appropriated by them):

I don't think there's any charitable view we can offer in this for why he hasn't covered it up.
Yeah, I don't think there's any charitable view that we can offer to him after knowing how problematic the tattoo is for as long as he did (allegedly at least a decade). "Life got in the way and it never came up" works as an excuse for cringe tattoos, not Nazi ones.
Looks like someone needs a visit from the Brunstane Inquisitorial Agency /s.
This kind of like when they reported that there was rising white nationalist and supremacist infiltration in law enforcement twenty years ago and proceeded to do fuck all with it?

Chile. And yall wonder why folk refuse to take any of you trashbags seriously
"People don't believe in incrementalism".

Yes, show me how incrementally things have gotten better for anyone but the oligarchy since OWS in 2011.
A podcast with a transcript is infinitely superior to one without.
My city's rally was one hour. It's already over.
if you're going to a protest today I wish you luck. The only specific thing I will beg of you is this: don't use milk to wash out tear gas or mace. if you see a street medic with milk, yell at them until they throw it out. do not continue to spread lies about emergency medicine.
Is this war of the asses or war for the asses?
Unfortunate. I grew up playing X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter so it was really hard to capture a fraction of the feeling in Squadrons.
I found the single player game of Squadrons pretty disappointing. I never waded into the online play.
I'm so glad that the liberals in my city have dedicated one whole hour to have a rally airing their grievances with this administration. Surely, this will tip the scales.
