These are some of the greyhounds that I’ve had the privilege of looking after. Two of them belong to me, and others are related to Diego and come to stay a few days with us. Life is good when there’s a greyhound or two around.
I’d like to see them grow up in emotionally mature men and women.
Disclaimer alert: I’m no nutritionist, but I read a lot about it. I’m not a vet, though I may try to play one on the internet ;-). I had been raw feeding for almost 30 years but my budget didn’t survive the pandemic inflation, so I had to go to kibble last year. My vet supports the diet.
By heat. Dogs have much stronger stomach acids for digestion and combating trace amounts of bacteria (they eat off the floor and backyard for cryin’ out loud), and since their GI tract is shorter than humans, digestion takes place very efficiently. I’d go back to raw diet in a sec if I had the funds
They key is having good quality ingredients that don’t come off the abattoir floor, or from diseased animals; giving a variety of plant material that is juiced to free the nutrients; and making sure that fatty amino acids are included. Raw is better because nutrients are not rendered indigestible >
The vet who bitch-slapped me with that comment meant that pets who are raw fed end up with complications that keep her clinic in business. Like I’m the kind of owner that would let any harm come to my pets! I’ve often come across that attitude from vets. It’s only lately that they’re better informed
Their poops are smaller and don’t smell, and disintegrate into compost in a few days. No more dangerous emissions because their food is being completely digested instead of merely rotting inside their GI tract. If it wasn’t for the fact that the cost of meat went up 30%, I’d still be feeding raw.
Of the plants. There’s really not much need to supplement further. The effect on their bodies and behaviours is startling. The eyes clear and shine brighter; their bodies sleek out and you see the underlying muscles; their coat becomes and shiny and bright enough for sunglasses. And the best>
Taste of something new. My guys love blueberries and mangos. I buy my veggies in bulk frozen 2kg bags. My greyhounds usually get a lb of ground beef in the mornings with 1/4-1/3 cup of smoothie, and a drizzle of olive oil or safflower oil (higher omegas). The nutrition is in the liquified form>
Iron-rich meats, beef is expensive, but you can also alternate with any of the other meats, the proteins are the most important factor here. Variety is key to a nutritionally balanced diet, so make a smoothie or slurry of different combinations of veggies and fruit, and they’ll look forward to the>
Feeding your human family. You get good quality meats from a regulated and/or federally regulated butcher or abattoir, puree any cellulose because their GI tracts don’t digest it well, enhance with some fats for the Omega’s (drizzle of olive oil). With greyhounds, who have a greater need for red>
Without knowing all the facts, I would venture to suggest that the raw food has actually been more beneficial to your pooch. I’ve been raw feeding all my dogs since the early 1990s. At first I was hesitant, not knowing if it was just a fad and hoping I wasn’t doing it wrong. But it’s really like>
It’s missing a greyhound, hence the dark vibe.
Dear Mr. Reich, you have worked very, very hard to inform the electorate of the facts and to prepare them for the inevitable consequences of the WH agenda. It has not gone unnoticed, and I’d like to think that your indefagitable efforts have helped to influence the recent changes. Bravo, sir!
Awesome backlighting! Makes the ears really stand out.
A shadowy dog on a shadowy planet. (From one of my fave local Toronto bands from the 80s, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet.)
I always thought her name was Dr Eleanor Jenga. Did it change?
Wasabi is an awesome name! Rolls off the tongue very easily.
I was asked by our town council to not jog anymore, since I apparently set off seismographs within a ten mile radius. Happy to comply.
I’ve posted stories of how some of my pets have died. I don’t want to be thought of as a negligent or bad owner. They’ve been such a source of joy, love and entertainment for me, as I know yours have been for you. I must be feeling particularly sad today, remembering Fawkes and also Thomas.
The picture you posted is very sweet, and ordinarily I would find something cute to say. I only tell this story to warn what may be possible.I had no idea that Fawkes had swallowed a whole ball of yarn. Unfortunately it was nylon/acrylic and would not break down. It tangled up his guts and he died
Focused on me for a second and looked around as if wondering where he was, and then was gone. We had been there for 8 hours, frantically doing every thing to make him survive, but it was not to be. The new vet was heroic in her efforts and much kinder than the first one. I went home without him.
It felt like a slap in the face, but I didn’t have the will to argue: just fix my dog please. A medicinal remedy was tried, x-rays were taken, he was prepped for surgery, there was a shift change, surgery took place, but sepsis had set in and he didn’t come out of recovery. He came to for a moment>
