Taking a few minutes to update these settings can go a long way in protecting your personal information and reducing risks online.

Your voice matters—and staying safe makes sure you can keep using it for the long haul.
Additionally, each social media platform handles privacy settings a little differently, so here are step-by-step guides to help you (and your peers) review and adjust them:
The below resources are provided so you can ensure your online safety. A good 1st step is to review personal social media accounts & remove any info that links to where someone teaches, lives, worships or otherwise identifies themselves in ways that could compromise their safety.
Our goal in sharing this reminder is not to limit your speech, but to encourage safe, intentional use of online platforms. By taking a few preventative steps, you can better protect yourself and your members from both online harassment and targeted complaints.
We all know how quickly a single post or comment can be twisted and turned into a bigger issue. Even when the intent is good, it can bring unwanted attention to an individual or their school community.
Unfortunately, people with bad intentions sometimes use that trail to find private details, like phone numbers, addresses, or photos, and share them publicly to embarrass or threaten. This is called doxxing, and it can put you or your members at real risk of harassment.
UFF Members,

As educators, you know how much weight our words and actions carry, especially online. Posts, photos, and even “likes” can be seen by many people and last forever. This is called your digital footprint, and it’s like a trail of breadcrumbs that leads back to you.
