A new study led by Prf. Emer McGrath, Consultant Neurologist at UHG & Associate Prf. of Medicine at University of Galway, has found that women who go through menopause earlier may face a higher risk of developing dementia later in life.

Renowned sean-nós singer Orla Ní Fhinneadha has been appointed '25-'26 Sean-Nós Singer-in-Residence at University of Galway’s Centre for Irish Studies. Orla, from Baile na hAbhann, Co Galway, has many singing titles to her name, including coming third in the Corn Uí Riada at the Oireachtas in 2016.

It will offer state-of-the-art facilities for teaching & research, including tutorial & seminar rooms, study spaces, research labs and offices. As part of our sustainability goals, the design includes plant systems & solar PV panels to enhance energy efficiency & reduce environmental impact.

The new facility is to be built on our south campus, a short distance from the Quadrangle. The design runs over four storeys, covering approx 3,925sq metres, and is integrated, via a glazed atrium link, with the existing Block E, a protected structure of historical & architectural significance.
