To add on, this wasn't a critique of you or the rest of the crew. I love your content and the fact we can discuss these things and shared experiences and feelings. Keep on being a light Mr. Ferrick, one day I hope to buy you a drink and waxing long on our shared love of Trek.

Also a mild apology, it wasn't downed and it was because of Celia's performance.

I appreciate your response. I can see how someone might feel it was overdone and every week you personally bring me joy with your vids. I know you're no cynic, didn't mean to imply such; I overstated that case, but I wanted to bring a positive spin as well. I think it speaks to La'an as much as us.
umbravenatir.bsky.social
So yeah I said that on the vid comments, but I wanted to highlight it here and get @seanferrick.bsky.social's eyes on it, because I think that really speaks to the heart of the episode: how media can change not just the world but our very lives. It's a fan loveletter.
umbravenatir.bsky.social
Also, the point wasn't that it was Trek (though it was), it was about how Amelia Moon changed La'an's life, specifically. She lost herself in those stories after unimaginable trauma and loss and then became a security officer to save lives. It changed her life, like Trek has for all of us.
umbravenatir.bsky.social
The speech on Trek: It is on the nose, but it is very heartfelt, especially from Celia. Seeing a black woman in space changed people's lives. Star Trek has. It changed Celia's life, IIRC. We cannot quantify that, and downing it kind of kills the joy and meaning of the point with cynicism.

I'm surprised ya'll didn't Cetaceanly Observed that Amelia Moon is most assuredly a reference to Dixon Hill (also first TNG ep with a holodeck and first/last SNW ep with a holodeck). @seanferrick.bsky.social

Just got home from #Peachcon. The community that @previewd.bsky.social @adamlash.bsky.social @thejayschmidt.bsky.social have built is amazing and I'm super thankful to be part of it. So much to share, soon! Also got to meet a wild @omn1media.bsky.social !

@seanferrick.bsky.social you know it's interesting all the talk about Spock and Data-coded in s3e2, but he also says at the end "no regrets" which Data points out to him in Unification pt2 is a human expression :D

The shirt was a particularly difficult fabrication, with the Hiss gone and HRAs off it can be properly admired.

Had to step out and come back in a few minutes later. lol, I had my Defiant micro-machine with me! Hard to believe they actually almost destroyed it for good. Still, the best Trek movie, with Undiscovered Country right behind.

Ironic that Stewart played Ahab in 98 release of Moby Dick. I was almost 11 when this came out, my 2nd Trek theater movie. Went with my mom, as TRek was our thing since I was 4 (with TNG). The Defiant almost going up freaked me out and the Borg...well I missed half the Zero-G stuff because horror.

Finally, an easy way to explain the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek:

One has Werner Herzog demanding a magic baby

The other has David Cronenberg explaining cosmic science politics
Werner Herzog, an old white guy, wearing a set of robes with a giant medal around his neck. He's gesturing wildly with his hands. David Cronenberg, an old white guy, wearing a futuristic suit and tie with square glasses. He's looking at a projection of complex schematics full of hexagons

The best TOS movie and second best overall (First Contact is so hard to beat). I have never agreed with you so closely on ups and downs! No notes, Mr. Ferrick!

I was doing session 0 for a Curse of Strahd/potentially Vecna Eve of Ruin campaign tonight, and I kept calling *Mordenkainen's Monsters of the Multiverse* the "Multiverse of Madness" (ala Dr. Strange) and nothing I did could stop myself the next time lol

One of the best things about the Bad Place was my favorite Trek YouTuber followed me back! I was surprised and touched. Keep being a light, Sean!

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

This is a very rough theory, but any time the thing being censored is a thing young people consume or place they congregate, concerns over censorship is brushed off or belittled & called "dramatic." I feel it often when talking about book bans of children's books too...

Many people’s condescension around the looming TikTok ban reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of how the app works, just how effective it was at connecting communities, and the good it has done for other people.

Please let Bluesky become the home for Star Trek discourse. I want to argue about who is the better chef, Sisko or Pike and why people who might pick Pike are wrong but could have a point.

New Trek is SO GOOD, its such a worthy successor to the Berman era in all the right ways and I continually am confused when people just hate it for no real reason (and understand the flaws that might turn a few people off legitimately)
