He has often told the story. He did record the song to tease his brother (who managed the group for a while). He didn't want to release the song, but the record company wanted a radio-friendly song on the album they were working on and insisted on adding the song.

Don't blame the networks. Given the choice between scheduled OTA broadcasting and on-demand streaming, it's a no-brainer, really. We cut the cord years ago.
