Anne (née Cooke) Bacon's comfortable childhood was spent at Gidea Hall, seen here. When she was just 12 yrs old Waltham Abbey, a mere 15 miles away, became the last religious house in England to be demolished under Henry VIII's Acts of Dissolution.
