Happy October! Let’s try this again and see if you can see the teaser to my latest short OFRENDA, which is apparently so scary Bluesky doesn’t want you to see it! #filmsky #scriptsky

PIRANHA 2 is exactly the film you expect when you hear that James Cameron was allowed to do all the pre-production/re-writes/location scounting/VFX planning only to be fired by the director of TENTACLES so he could takeover. #filmsky

Here’s my take: scene structure matters infinitely more than the structure of the script as a whole. If your scenes have intention, character/theme development and feel rewarding in and of themselves, people will want to keep watching. Otherwise, it’s an extended trailer/wiki summary.

So #WritingCommunity how do we feel about structure?

Do you use the 3 act structure? The 5 act?

Hero's Journey? Save the Cat? Super Structure Method? Story Genius Method?

Something else?

What have you got?

It’s a great set of a great movie! Get it especially because, if I recall correctly, it never had a bluray. So it’s this or DVD, which doesn’t do it justice.

Heads up to my fellow physical media enjoyers, the 4K UHD disc of “The Limey” is temporarily available via Lionsgate Limited’s online store. This looks like the last remaining stock from when this was a Best Buy exclusive. It has been unavailable for years up to this point. So jump on it!
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Agreed. Though his work as DP and director can’t compare to his collaborations with Larry Fong. I wish they’d get back together.

Mel Brooks’ best film and mandatory viewing. Especially now that you’ve seen the primary influences! That he dropped it and Blazing Saddles the same year is insane.

Watching this was revelatory because so many Young Frankenstein gags suddenly made sense.

Outside of the REC franchise, I think I’ve only seen Veronica. Which was well made, stylish and ultimately a fairly standard supernatural movie.

SAW V starts with a pit and pendulum kill and is directed by a guy named HACKL. This is why we movies. #filmsky

I thought how interesting it must be that Paco Plaza is working on this one and going in a vastly different direction yet his contributions to the genre with REC seem to define/inspire over half of the entries in this franchise.

I’d say this one has fewer mild disappointments than many in the franchise. It’s like grabbing a fistful from the candy bowl and only getting one thing of candy corn.

I’ll let you know when I give it a look!
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Sure! Any video in particular you’re wanting to get eyes on?

She is not, though I’ve tried to get her to join. She’s more of an insta poster but mainly averse to social media in general.
tythefilmaddict.bsky.social
Thank you for watching and the kind words! I’ll pass on the compliment. She’ll be thrilled. Really appreciate it.

I’ve seen every Carpenter film (and tv movie) but tonight I finally saw one of his films in theaters: CHRISTINE.

Exceptional King adaptation and Carpenter’s best directed film after THE THING. Keith Gordon is phenomenal, as are the effects, score and anamorphic cinematography. #filmsky

He’s lamenting his failure to maintain a healthy bed time. I can relate.

Out of the run of messy episodes in Twin Peaks season 2, this one stands out as not at all terrible. Diane Keaton's directing is one good reason why.

Rewatched NEXT OF KIN (‘82) and I already really liked it but now I kind of love it. The way the film flows freely between different genres of horror in an incredibly slow burn before pulling the trigger and going wildly intense for its reveal is something that should be studied. #filmsky

Nice! Thanks. Here’s my last short film but we’ve got a new horror one coming up that I’m trying to figure out how to promote:

Yeah, I’m looking for something like The Haunting but in an ordinary house that predates Amityville.

I do need to see the Sentinel. Is it just that unit or the whole complex?
