So cool to see my art attached to a peer-reviewed study again!

And Pachycephalosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Edmontosaurus, and Baryonyx. I’ve got 8 of these left that I’ll post as I go. Can’t wait to see my art at the zoo!
Plateosaurus, Apatosaurus, Struthiomimus, and Scutellosaurus…
I still have 8 drawings to do (this came up VERY last minute, but the folks at the zoo have been super flexible with me because of that), but here are the rest of the 15 I’ve done so far.

Heterodontosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Zhenyuanlong, and Yi…
The dinosaurs have arrived at Blank Park Zoo, so here’s the project I’ve been working on this week. I was commissioned by the zoo to draw 23 silhouettes for signage comparing their animals with dinosaurs as part of their new “Dino Park Zoo” branding. Species labels in alt text.

24 If any, or hopefully all, of this is interesting. They you might want to know that c. 6 months from now I'll have a book about all this and much more, written with, and illustrated by @markwitton.bsky.social. It's available for preorder now in all the usual places online.

Thanks for reading.

With the trailers for both #WalkingWithDinosaurs and #JurassicWorld Rebirth apparently showing swimming Spinosaurus, I thought it might be time to go over why I think these animals were not good swimmers. After all, it's something I've written a fair bit about (with @arctomet.bsky.social) 1/many
I adore your work and am grateful for the support you’ve given me over the years, and I hate seeing you constantly targeted by these people. I hope the love you get when you speak up outweighs the noise from angry smooth brains.
Tonight on Unsolved Mysteries: it’s one of Adobe’s flagship programs. With a powerful desktop workstation and as much memory freed up as possible, there should be no limit to what you can create with it. So, why does After Effects still run like complete ass?

We got the one before ancient Hoplophorus, ancient Hoplophorus, Hoplophorus… wait, I’ve seen this one before.
Jumping on the latest trend.
That’s a 10-year-old tentative master plan that doesn’t match with the current zoo and the expansions, renovations they have announced.
(2/2) The current otter exhibit is tiny and really showing its age, and the current bald eagle exhibit is a converted education pavilion. Compare that with what’s in the wild Iowa renderings. It’s night and day.

(1/2) AFAIK there are no plans for gorillas. Still, rhinos seemed like something that would never happen when I was a kid, so who knows what the future will bring?

Yes, the only new animals in Wild Iowa will be bobcats. However, the new river otter and bald eagle enclosures will be very welcome.
It’s an EXCELLENT zoo. Small but mighty. It’s grown a lot since I was a kid, and always for the better. Well worth a visit if you get the chance.

Here are some pictures I took when I visited with my girlfriend a few weeks ago. She loved it.
Bonus: corporate wants you to find the difference between these two pictures.
Spent my morning covering the groundbreaking for the new lion conservation center at Blank Park Zoo. After 10 years without a visit, I’ve somehow ended up at the zoo 3 times this month. Guess I’m making up for lost time.

Anyway, time to flex with some shots I got of the kitties.
Somehow, Troodon returned.
Being a paleoartist with a social media following is fun, because you get to have people who don’t understand your field accuse you of lying and tell you that T. rex actually had wings and was a dragon. #paleoart #paleoartist #meme #skit
I know I already responded on Twitter, but… you’ve always been one of my idols, and your kindness and support of my work has meant the world to me. I know many others can say the same. I hope you feel all that kindness in return while you grieve.
