There were always problems with authors citing articles they never read or even got their hands on, and with authors citing sources that never got published. Academic librarians know this because they are tasked with tracking them down.

AI is taking an existing problem and magnifying it immensely.

"In 2023, Walmsley received £12.7 million in total pay, a 51 per cent increase from her compensation in 2022, making her the second highest paid chief executive of a European pharmaceutical company" (Wikipedia, 2025).

I guess that's how you afford such an enormous cross to wear around your neck...👀

Decided I need an afternoon of lightness.
Watching "Life Of The Party" on ABC iview.
Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Matt Walsh, Jacki Weaver. Perfect - just what I need.

The myth of neutrality. In journalism, as in #Libraries.

"Trumpeting neutrality ignores the core values of librarianship, and allows inequality to persist as status quo"
(Jensen, 2008).

Neutrality is just being what the system asks us to be (Horton and Bell, 1990, p. 102).

This is a beautifully written piece - thoughtful and insightful.
Among the many things he got right is that #Libraries are not neutral.

Libraries: more than just a room full of books
Some of the most important moments of my life have happened in buildings most people drive past without noticing. Not parliaments. Not universities. Not courts. Libraries. If you drew a map of my life...

”… Christine Christian (State Library of Victoria Board) who I’ve started to think of as Victoria’s Marie Antoinette. Let them eat compelling digital experiences.“

Quote of the day! #SLV.

Good crowd gathered at #SLV - not convinced by the weasely, strategically timed ”rethink“ from State Library of Victoria.

Many of us believe the very stupid Library exec's plan has just been 'withdrawn' before the rally tomorrow (Saturday, 12.30, Library steps) to try to get it cancelled. Big possibility of them re-wording & doing most of it anyway. Come along to find out what's happened & what needs to happen now.

Save the State Library rally in Melbourne is still on! Join us there 12.30 tomorrow (Saturday) to find out what happened & what needs to happen now. The execs who want to cut staff & services & put giant video screens in the dome remain in charge. Spread the word!

The Inspector of the NACC has received 90 complaints with most about the NACC Commissioner conflict of interests with Defence.

His response: "it's very easy to put too much weight on the number of complaints" 🤦‍♂️

The anticipation of Senator Shoebridge's turn to question the #NACC is building. Can't wait. I imagine he is warming up now ...

Oh well done - the fulltime job we pay him for is his overwhelming focus. So grateful.
