This is a moral fight between Right and Wrong. It isn’t time to retreat from it, to parse out legal trespassing as reality is being tirelessly shifted.

Stop looking to the referees and institutions. They’ve failed you. Stop expecting someone to save us, they won’t. This is on us.
yeah .... 💔💔

(if we don't test, there'll be fewer cases)

For years now, I've said our official health policy would eventually look like "The Secret," a book that literally advises everyone to wish away illness and abandon their friends who "don't want to get better."

We're pretty much there.

When the cruelty
and childishness
of these times is overwhelming
I hear friends explain
that the regions of the brain
Covid damages
control empathy and compassion,
and I fear Covid
has damaged our empathy,
and I also fear Covid
revealed
how damaged our empathy
has always been.

A failing that physics faculty and physics students seem to be mutually complicit in is understanding that physics classes are often not really about learning the specific topic but rather are about the way learning the specific topic teaches you methods, including thinking methods

1. Trump grows even more unpopular.
2. ???
3. The country is saved.

What is 2? Can someone flesh it out for me?

The whole point of rigging this system is that you're insulated from public opinion!

I really need for people to see & acknowledge that the open racism & sexism in US public life today are directly downstream of the decade-long effort to destroy "woke," ie, anti-racism & anti-sexism. This was always the point.
"grading on a curve for the world being on fire, no" EXACTLY
me: why do they always make the robots look like humans in shows and movies?

me: come to think of it, mf'ers are trying to make robots that look like people NOW for real.

me: oh shit, is this one of those *time loop* things? did we incept ourselves?!
💔 and trying to parse what percentage of symptom intensification might be due simply to stress caused by terribleness around us all... bleah

The meeting began
with an icebreaker:
“which of your skills
would be most useful
if you found yourself
sent back in time
to the Middle Ages?”
and as I looked around
at all the unmasked faces
I was tempted to say:
I know how to
avoid the plague,
but instead I just said:
I can knit.

The moment the stock market recovered from April, I figured it wouldn't be long before Trump started in with tariffs and other destabilizing moves again. And look, he's doing it. Because throttling the market for his insider trading friends is the point.

"America First" in the front, "give the entire country away to my rich pals around the world" in the back
I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

*after scoring on ourselves repeatedly* Well we obviously can't count on our fair-weather so-called fans to cheer for anything. The only way out of this hole is to find some new ways to score on ourselves; we need those opposing fans even more than before.

oh I suppose YOU have a better idea

Framing it as Trump simply going after his political enemies is misleading because to a fascist every other living person is their political enemy.

You’re his political enemy. You just haven’t been identified yet.

Gotta be honest. I used to love social media. It was a place to go and connect, to learn, to express, even if it was about unpleasant stuff. Now, it very much feels like that's gone. I have an aversion to social media now.

According to a new study
conducted in a hospital
“Airborne SARS-CoV-2
may transmit infection
after more than 4 hours,”
so the question
you must ask yourself
is not if you are in a hospital,
but if you are somewhere
that someone was exhaling
SARS-CoV-2
in the last 4 or 5 hours.
in my Presbyterian Church in the very early 80's, communion always included a little explanation that the grape juice was around the outside of the circular mini shot glass tray, separated from the few mini shots of red wine in the center, cuz the congregation had plenty of folks in recovery. 😇

I don’t think I’ve seen it phrased quite this way before but holy shit, yeah

I mean I don’t personally need a purely self-interested reason to hold the notion of due process as a moral value but if I DID
if your neighbor doesn't have due process, you don't either, because if the cops confuse you with your neighbor, you have no way to prove you're not them.
