Whelp, once again I am compelled to take direct action to cause material harm to fascism.

This unfortunately means starting this week I have to reduce video production down to merely the livestreams on Sundays.

Idk what your distro is but this is not an uncommon occurrence in dual booting via same drive.

I just did this on a fedora install, all I had to do was boot into a live USB environment and repair the install.

However, that solution is distro-specific, and not sure if the drive used GPT or MBR.

I have heard that this is an issue with uploading images from some iteration of Firefox on debian-based Linux, but I have yet to test and confirm.

Yeah, still bugs the crap out of me though that I daily use a mass spec setup worth like 2 million dollars and we only just got the upgrade from windows XP last year.

Not internet connected so I guess it doesn't matter.

I'm sure at some point there will be a linux OS that's a solid competitor to windows for general use, but only like 3 distros are headed that direction rn.

I'm only going to confirm your belief because while I'm no CS dude I am so much of a gamer I built my gaming PC's OS from the stock arch kernel

Yeah I don't think most people would.

I've taught enough people to use Linux I find the main reason people switch to it and keep using it as a general purpose OS is material improvements to their computer experience like saving money by not buying a new PC.

Of the time that's going to either be some windows variant or the proprietary software to interact with the machine is windows only.

I use a lot of embedded OS's for robot control (industrial metal machining, not electronics) and ime, assuming a large industrial machine isn't 50+ years old (which a depressingly large amount are in the USA), it's an uneven 3-way split between:

1. Some dumb legacy system written in kobol

Yeah those old 5:4 resolutions and color depth is surprisingly difficult to get working on a modern PC, even if the fundamental architecture is the same.

I'd buy this article if the man had like a Vietnamese name, most Americans don't know how to pronounce and would routinely fuck up a name like Nâm Dàhn or Thy Dù. Diacritical marks are hard, but Zohran is pretty easy for a native English speaker.

I'm not here to evangelize Linux, but it sounds like you're in a similar spot to where I was about 15 years ago with windows telemetry.

IME:
1. Windows can and does just undo these changes on its own.
2. It's fundamentally designed for data collection.
3. You cannot make windows something it isn't.
