The Prey

#kcd #kcd2 #kingdomcome #kingdomcomedeliverance2 #hansry #henryofskalitz #hanscapon #art #illustration #fanart
A painting of Hans on horseback riding in a forest, with Henry following him on foot. In the foreground are Hans' hunting dogs, running to catch a hare and unaware of the other hare behind them. In the background, among the trees, runs a deer too, but only Henry seems to have noticed it. Flowers pepper the ground beneath everyone's feet and they are drawn in a style reminiscent of medieval tapestries. The scene is lit by a warm dappled light. His face lit by the sun, Hans smiles with incandescent joy.

This scene is so sweet. Does little Birk enjoy Ingmar’s cooking?

Ingmar also looks so at home and relaxed with his sleeves up! What a treat to see him like this 😊

In 2024, after finishing my first fully coloured piece in a long time, I decided to write an essay on why I’d felt unable to complete anything for so many years. Only recently have I had the time to put it together into something others can read. Here is the first part of it:
Why I couldn't finish anything [Part 1]
An essay from 2024 that explores why I couldn't complete any artwork and how I overcame my mental block enough to finally finish something.

It's so hard to get through this hump, but you're not alone! I hope my feelings on the subject can make others feel less isolated in their experience with it. I'm happy you enjoyed the tid-bits of my process ☺️ there will be a couple more in the next part (and thank you for being excited for it!)

So glad you found it interesting! Perfectionism can be such a difficult thing to work through; I'm sorry to hear it's something that has affected you as well. This said, it's amazing to see how much great art you make on a regular basis and that perfectionism hasn't stopped you from sharing it!

If you’re curious about examples of my earlier art, there are a few snippets of it in here too. An embarrassing but necessary addition to the essay, ahah

I think I’ve seen all of your post appear on my feed pretty much immediately after you’ve made them, if that’s of any comfort!

I've noticed a similar thing as well. For some reason notifications tend to be delayed when I'm viewing bsky on my computer's browser vs on my phone 🤔

I still can’t stop thinking at how beautiful this embroidery is — like, I keep bringing it up to a friend of mine irl who does fibre arts too to just gush about the skill and craftsmanship behind it.

The colours, compositions, the details, Erik’s expression—everything!

So glad to see it here too ☺️

My most recent embroidery I've made so far - this of Erik, one of my favorite characters <3 I was really happy to post this on isterik week on tumblr.

[ #kcd2 #kingdomcome #kingdomcomedeliverance2 #erikkcd #embroidery #fiberarts #isterik ]
An embroidered image of Erik in portrait style. The top illustration is the dog that Erik killed when finding out that Istvan was killed. The left flowers are carnations which mean love, distinction, and motherly affection. The flowers were common in medieval manuscripts. I have them blooming healthily on the left and the right they are withered - aka Erik's mental state after Istvan's death.

Then I have Erik on his horse during the horse race with Godwin - I thought about putting Godwin too but decided not to. Then on the right I have when Istvan gave Erik the message for Sigismund since that's the last scene they had together.

Bottom left I had a house burning and a small Erik standing in front of it and mirroring it to the right we have a fully grown Erik standing in front of the burned remains of a house he's burned no doubt with Istvan. Bottom picture of course is Istvan's grave. The yellow all around is Ivy, a very common plant in manuscript work as well.

Henry is on the left in his outfit stolen from a guard that he's in when he kills Istvan and on the right is Istvan - his face in shadow of course because he died. The green bit above Istvan is a bloody footprint in grass - it doesn't quite come across but I kept it in cause it was fun. A close up of the embroidery - of note - the halo is made of interlocking blanket stitches, the chainmail he is wearing is made of french knots. The rivets on his chest piece are silver beads. The filigree around the piece are split stitches.

I would never have guessed the sketches went through being posterized, nor ever thought to use that effect in this context; that’s such a clever idea. Thank you for sharing a peak into your process — it was really interesting!

My first KCD embroidery - about 300 hours of love <3

[ #kcd #kcd2 #kingdomcome #kingdomcomedeliverance2 #henryofskalitz #embroidery #fiberarts ]
A hand embroidered piece with a medieval style window with Henry from KCD standing in the middle in flowers with a backdrop of a field and Trosky castle. A sun is emblazzed behind him in gold thread. He's holding a sword that comes out of frame. There is a blue couched thread detailing around the outside and a shield of Liepa and Kobyla. on each side. Pebbles rears up on the left side with a saddle and Mutt is on the right chasing a bird (a motif for Hans). Embroidered on the bottom to look like an inscribed scroll are the words audentes fortuna iuvat from the game. A close up from the bottom left of the embroidery featuring Pebbles and the "audentes fortuna" showing in detail the couched threads and the short and long stitches of Pebbles, the satin stitches around the border and the scroll with inscription. A close up on the right with Mutt and the bird, both done in long and short stitch.

That makes sense! The texture+feel you get with traditional tools is great, but it’s nice to have those digital tools to finish things up. Do you use a scanner in your process btw? I’m actually amazed at the clarity and contrast of the lines
tsinavar.bsky.social
Aw, ahah, I feel honoured!

Truth be told, my art looked awfully stiff up until a couple of years ago, so hearing that now people like the dynamism in it just makes my heart melt ☺️

Movement is such a challenge to capture in still mediums but thinking of a drawing like a window into a longer moment/sequence has helped me!
tsinavar.bsky.social
Aw I totally get that! I feel like that with tumblr, actually — I kind of forget I’m on there, sometimes. But you totally should post them! It would be lovely to see your embroideries here too 😊
tsinavar.bsky.social
That makes me so happy to hear!! Drawing in black and white is actually my favourite since I can concentrate more on the line work and the movement behind each stroke 💫
tsinavar.bsky.social
Thank you so much! I had a lot of fun doing these; I’m so happy you like them 😊 and it’s great to see you here lara!
tsinavar.bsky.social
That’s great! I’ve actually been wondering for a while if you’ve been doing the oc-tober sketches traditionally or digitally, and I’m glad to have that curiosity of mine satisfied now, ahah
tsinavar.bsky.social
Really love the movement in the brush/ink strokes in this one — they’re so dynamic!
