A possible attractive theory is that the reason Team MAGA is going with the all bananas all the time strategy is that they've lost folks who are interested in politics, policy and results, and replaced them with folks who are interested in Trump. If these people are not engaged, they lose interest.

They say one is supposed to get more conservative as they age. This seems at least anecdotally true. The opposite is true for me, or at least I think I better understand why I believe the things I believe. There are a lot of haughty, self-satisfied people online.

Start making 2028 noises, get on trumps radar. Then you have to deal with that and decisions have to be made. Break with him, draw his ire and screw your candidacy. Or stay close and eventually die from the increasing radioactivity of him. Best move is to keep your powder dry.

The overall number on immigration has been his best for awhile, but people hate a lot of what ICE is doing and ICE is -9 in approval. So as the ICE equivalent of fire hoses and dogs stacks up video footage on a daily basis, expect his overall immigration numbers to fall.

We shouldn’t be subsidizing offshoring through the tax code. Otoh, we shouldn’t be getting into trade wars over tshirts. American manufacturers can compete in a variety of markets. Companies that do well and add US jobs should be favored if any are. Same for foreign manufacturers operating here.

Bibi has been making life miserable for US Presidents and Secs of State since HW Bush. He's got Trump right where he wants him and will continue to do whatever he wants to do. The goal was to crush Gaza and any chance of a Palestinian state, not to crush Hamas, as they are a useful tool.

And I was about to be wondering why I hadn't heard Ryan's name. The Dem bench is OH is thin, Ryan is a decent politician and has already run statewide. Sherrod is in the Senate race and has the chops to lead the ticket. Ryan will have help.

Vance won by 6 over Ryan in 2022. Vance is white, Vivek is not, and Ohio is very white. Vance doesn't come off as obviously strange (he's worse and thus more dangerous), but Vivek does. 2026 should be about as bad an environment for the GOP since 2006/2008. Ryan can obviously win.
