"We must now prioritise one thing above all else - getting aid in to save lives. People are starving, and children are dying. Every delay is a death sentence," said Chris McElhinney, Head of Humanitarian Programmes at Trócaire.

Trócaire welcomes, with cautious optimism, the first phase of a ceasefire in #Gaza and continues to call for urgent delivery of humanitarian aid and political action as the humanitarian crisis remains catastrophic.

The genocide in Gaza must not be allowed to fade from international focus.

"However, Ireland has yet to meet its international commitment of 0.7% of GNI on overseas aid. Now more than ever, it is essential that the government create a meaningful action plan towards achieving this.”
trocaire.bsky.social
Drastic budget cuts across the world, in a move towards militarism and disregard for international human rights and humanitarian law are having a profoundly negative impact on communities. Ireland’s leadership, global solidarity and protection of overseas aid have never been more important.
trocaire.bsky.social
Siobhán Curran, Trócaire’s Head of Policy & Advocacy, said “Ireland’s commitment to overseas development aid makes a critical difference to families, communities and civil society who are facing poverty, displacement, and human rights abuses."

Trócaire acknowledges the Government’s commitment to overseas aid announced in today’s budget.

Aid is a lifeline for millions, however, next years planned increase while welcome, falls short of what is required to tackle escalating needs in such an unstable global context.

Today is #BudgetDay.

As many countries around the world are taking a step back, Ireland must step up and reaffirm its commitment to the protection of overseas aid.

Together with Dóchas we are calling on the Government to increase aid - it’s a lifeline for millions.

“This is not a natural disaster – it is a calculated destruction of life.
It is planned.
It is a genocide.”

We are two years into a live-streamed genocide in Palestine.

Trócaire is urging the Irish Government to pass the Occupied Territories Bill in full. We need action, and we need it NOW.
