Hi writers (whether prose writers or poets, and all levels)… I’m teaching a 5-Mondays, generative writing workshop this fall, WRITING FROM ANIMALS. It starts in 2 weeks (Oct 27 - Nov 24). We’ll explore 5 distinct perspectives on our relationships with animals, and we’ll write! Do come!

Thanks Beverley Shaw for being the best Booktoberfest booth-mate, yesterday, and hat tips to Susan Leblanc, Sue Murtagh, Shelagh Meagher, and Bryn Pottie for sharing our neck of the Booktoberfest Woods. It was fun! Talking to readers (and their dogs) was a blast. #WFNS #tidewaterpress

Not sure why I put the box on my piano to open it, since it meant I had to crouch to get my face in my phone’s camera frame, but hey, you can’t open a box twice, now can you? Next time I’ll apply some forethought, and maybe even lipstick… ☺️ @tidewaterpress.bsky.social

Little glimpse into the concert, which drew about 100 lovely listeners. We played 8 of our own original pieces mixed with trad, contemporary, and jazz. Donations at the door yielded a sizeable contribution to the youth arts fund, SPARK! 🎶 🎻 🎸🪈 🎻

My son Luke, aka Lightnin Luke, (fiddler, guitarist, pianist, singer-songwriter) played the Filmore West in San Francisco last night. Both with his band, The Bridge City Sinners, who opened, and sitting in with the headliner band, The Devil Makes Three. Could not be prouder of him. Here’s a snippet:

1-min sampling of music from Trillium, the trio I play in (recently a quartet with bodhran player, Jody Conrad, joining us). Get in touch if we fit an event you have coming up. We play an eclectic mix of trad, Celtic, folk, gentle jazz, & renaissance/classical music. youtu.be/Vi5TTlzePk4?...

Anti-Americanism, yes I agree. “White anglophones” encompasses many cultural backgrounds, tho. I think we’re bound by a love of peace & our geography’s diversity/wildness. And I can usually identify a Canadian book, film, song, painting etc by its qualities of space, light, tone, colour, directness.
