I grew up in Tulsa and never learned about the 1921 Race Massacre until I became a fan of the GAP Band in college, and out of simple curiosity, looked up the origin of their name (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine Streets— the epicenter of destruction). That horrifying history must not be silenced again.
Oklahoma’s curriculum rules make it so teachers aren’t supposed to tell students that the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 — a defining incident of racial violence in Oklahoma history — was perpetrated by racists. @jsmithrichards.bsky.social
