Some features require a subscription to unlock ($7.50 a month) but I'm not sure these are especially necessary. Time will tell.
However, anyone who registers can use the app's main functions for free. As far as I can see, these include the option to 'follow' me. Please message me if you do. I'll follow you back as I want to experiment with the 'social' features of the app.
I've started experimenting and using cooked.wiki for archiving favourite recipes I especially like in one place, and collating new ones I try (or am planning to). You can browse these from anywhere without signing up/subscribing by using this link cooked.wiki/user/nellieb...

Kurt Vonnegut was much cleverer than me and expressed a similar sentiment in this much reposted quote.
So TIL you can't edit Bluesky posts when I went to add this meme to my original post.
Etymology du jour
The Latin word ludens is the present active participle of the verb ludere, which itself is cognate with the noun ludus. Ludus has no direct equivalent in English, as it simultaneously refers to sport, play, school, and practice
@papawoof.bsky.social made me think about the importance of 'play' as regards the human condition. I believe we should all take fun very seriously.

For me, one reason for this is the work of Johan Huizinga and his concept 'Home ludens' (the playing (wo)man.

I 💙 this. I did something similar one time when I was recovering from an episode of depression based on a twist on Luke Rhinehart's novel 'Diceman'. Bit of a tl;dr tbh.

Synopsis - Seek ways to randomly introduce fun/joy into your life.

Can you recommend an extraordinary book?
“Can you recommend a book that I’d find extraordinary?” I asked the woman in the book shop. “It’s a game I sometimes play.” The Cha...

Oi oi! Michael can you remind when Misled Convoy is gonna be happening in the UK? I'm keen to keep the dates clear. Maximum love to you and Paddy as always. Nx
@joerotindo.bsky.social this gave me a rare chuckle when this ghastly tomfoolery stuff permeates my awareness and I catch myself dwelling on "the horror, the horror."
Followed and will try to check his books out. One of his recent posts cracked me up. I'll try to tag you. Not sure if this platform enables that. I'll soon know if not.
There's always such a strong subjective aspect to film/music/art/food/everything IMO. You just pushed Anora right up my list Justin. We love films like that. Currently, we're still recovering from a massive Yellowstone binge. Did you see that? We loved it.
Thanks for explaining Crabstar. And pleased to meet you 🙂
Thank you. Do we know each other IRL? Don't recognise your nickname and my memory is garbage! I'm guessing you were in my FB friends list, which I did a mass Bluesky follow on with an app.
Newbie question
I'm just exploring the Bluesky environment. Tell me things you think newbies like me should know.
Not seen Anora yet. Liked Dune 2 even though I'm not a sci-fi buff. But I thought The Substance really sucked. YMMV

I'm brand new to Bluesky. Mainly been on FB for years. The ❤️ function is inappropriate for my feelings about this. I'm still finding my way here. You have my sympathy. I loathe it.
