medium.com/@travelingtw... -- has been a bit over a year but time to blast another series of VR experiences out one last time. \o/ Topics: #VRChat roleplaying, graffiti, some moonlighting, filmmaking, blogging pivots, and a last-year lookback. Appreciate all who helped me build this over the year!
What’s VRChat like past your 2nd year?
This builds on the little anthology I released in an end-year blast at the end of 2023, though reading that prior’s not required to read…

Hit home with this as those projects I posted about to "evolve world exploring" in vrchat begin moving from "fun ideas" to "is this actually quality enough of an execution to warrant getting it in front of others"? 💦
Website screenshot of a vrchat.com Group widget with

- the name Worldsharing Guidebook

- a neon glowing globe-inside-booklike-silhouette icon, with the globe in a gradient from gold at the top to green in the middle and blue at the bottom vs. a very light, pale brown like paper for the book-like frame around the globe. The four corners as well as the top and bottom are a series of cyan circles for nodes interlinked by the frame of the book and the longitudinal meridian down the center of the icon and globe.

- a banner stating the words "Let's Talk Worlds" stylized in an upward arc that can go over one's nameplate when representing the Group in-game,

- a shortcode of WORLDS.4886

- a current member count of 3

- a short description that reads "Let's help explorers feel seen by sharing our knowledge and journeys. Let's trailblaze new frontiers to evolve the worldhopping and discovery scene together." Before trailing off due to truncation.

In-game vrchat photo of a steampunk city in brown, red, and orange high-rise buildings snaked all over by pipes with a few telephone power lines and poles stretching from the foreground toward the background which grows as foggy as the sky overhead In-game vrchat photo of a pale yellow-orange moon over the surface of a slightly wavy body of water's deep blue, fenced in by some earthen rock features on the left and green bamboo forest on the right but both washed out by the same deep blue of the surrounding night sky
Polyzen Garden by Enverex #VRChat #VRChatPhotography #VRChat_world紹介
In-game vrchat photo shot from a low-down perspective through some foilage in the foreground's lower-left corner, a few drooping willow-like green trees along the left third in the background, and a red-brown tower in the style of a Chinese pagoda circled with tall orange-blue rectangular hanging lanterns. This tower overlooks a small rippling pond across the bottom-right corner of the frame, with a large tree trunk filling out the far right edge of the photo against the starry night skybox. In-game vrchat photo shot from flying the camera up above and looking down upon a small waterfall feature spilling forth from a stone building flanked by a lone tree, tall and thin with a green canopy escaping the top of the frame mirrored on either side. A glowing purple-pink lotus or similar flower spawns and drifts down out of the stone structure's spout and down the waterfall into the pond. The lighting of the surroundings is dark enough that the glow cast by the moving plant brightens up a small area of the waterfall and the pond as it floats along. In-game vrchat photo shot from afar with a slightly widened lens, its perspective glancing up at a pillar of smoke rising from a central campfire fenced in on a platform centered amid the garden. Trees of varying size and a few natural colors dot the photo, but notably a surreal magical-looking tree sits along the right side with its leaves purple or magenta up top and a pale blue or cyan as it reaches the end of its drooping canopy. In-game vrchat photo shot hunched down behind some glowing teal mushrooms, peering out at a strange cave-like structure against some surrounding trees and the starry night sky. It's not too wide or part of any mountain range, but still tall, almost like a lone magma-less volcano but split open top to bottom along the front with some lanterns hanging along suggesting some kind of doorway or place to hang out inside that tall rock enclosure.

Progress over the past week finishing the warp wall! Had to up SDKs to see Example Central but set up the Group Page prefab here too (wip on the icon w/a friend)... I worry the panel's easy to overlook though?

Ideas welcome... maybe book glow -> pop it when clicked? #VRChat #VRChat_world
In-game vrchat photo of a world WIP with a wall of buttons in various colors of arrow icon labeled by portal category on the left and farther into the back towards the right a panel with an "Open Group" button labeled overhead by explainer text. That text reads: "Help out world explorers! Share your experience in the Google Form linked by this Group page to help us see each other and expand our knowledge."

If you #vrchat #vrcfurry #furryvr world-exploring folks have never dropped by BTVR or peeked their streams, highly recommend, one of the first groups I bumped into a good while back and absolute units for how consistent they are when it comes to adventuring passions o7 very nice vibes to boot
Last stream, we found some futuristic worlds to help celebrate the release of #TronAres, and we also got to show off a new favourite avatar that can fly.

Interior of an Atompunk retro futuristic home looking across a table flanked with red chairs and a red sofa with a television playing aesthetically-related visuals and music. Big bay windows line the walls looking out over a blue and orange sunrise/sunset sky. On the slick chrome-colored table's surface sits a plate of sparse sushi beside a tall thin wineglass, a nondescript open brochure next to a stack of papers, and a lone spinning top that looks suspiciously like the one from Inception's ending. Exterior of an Atompunk retro futuristic home decked with a few neon signs glowing out against the sunrise/sunset's cloudy sky. At the far left in the background sits a tree with rich brown bark but white drooping leaves in the style of a willow or weeping cherry tree. In the foreground to the right the neon sign reads "Bus Stop" at the top and "No Parking" underneath. Exterior of an Atompunk retro futuristic home at sunset or sunrise with the building at left third, touting the large letters "UFO" in neon spread across tall vertical lines of chrome running like stripes down the length of the otherwise red-brown building surface. The remaining two thirds to the right capture a tree with rich brown bark but white drooping leaves in the style of a willow or weeping cherry tree. From it hangs a swing with the photographer's jacket-wearing gray-haired fox-eared humanoid avatar perched in an abnormal half-squat over the seat of the swing (due to the way the seat collider interacted with the avatar's pose system). Shot from behind of a tree with rich brown bark but white drooping leaves in the style of a willow or weeping cherry tree. From it hangs a swing with the photographer's jacket-wearing gray-haired fox-eared humanoid avatar seated normally upon it, legs dangling over the endless blue sky. The tree and swing overlook the sun.
Another general spotlight for avatars as a breather, this past summer I toyed around and really enjoyed the little modular tool add-on workflow for the creator at van-labo.booth.pm! #VRChat #Chocolat3D

In-game vrchat shoulder-up selfie of an avatar (an aged-up Chocolat base edit) showing its nails to the camera. The nails are set to the size of a natural fingernail shape and painted with star and zodiac patterns in white over a light blue gradient background. The gradient starts from the color of sky blue at the base and becomes fully dark as it reaches the fingertip. In-game vrchat shoulder-up selfie of an avatar (an aged-up Chocolat base edit) showing its nails to the camera. The nails are set to the size of a natural fingernail shape and painted with a yellow and purple gradient to match the avatar's yellow eyes and purple hair. Small starry patterns overlay the gradient in white, with a shooting star animation playing every few seconds. The connected constellation of Capricorn adorns the center-left nail. A screenshot of the Unity editor viewport with an avatar's hand affixed with nails on the left quarter while a tool window covers the rest to its right. The tool reads MDNailToolWindow with drop-downs for avatar base, desired nail shape, whether to include nails on the feet, and a view of what sets and other sub-options are available.
#vrchat - in the past I had a whole setup hiding a word riddle that if answered correctly, I would get a favorite world from the person and add to a super special list (and tell them where it is)? But I worry that might be taking on top of taking rather than rewarding, hm...
What to put into a world that would reward *you* with sufficient value, when submitting responses to questions reflecting on world exploring I'd like to add to that WIP portal/phonebook world? (along the lines of these Bsky posts...) - old example in reply--
Feels good to finally have some portals showing up after all that diagramming the past week! Enjoying the idea of taking the "add your photos here!" in this direction, but now I do wonder what backdrop to actually put in the frames behind VR-Voyage's world loaders... #VRChat #VRChat_world
In-game vrchat photo of a world in development, a room lined with tall brown wooden bookshelves and dotted with four pink-purple crystals hanging overhead from the top of the frame. A parallel set of these crystals flank a central staircase going up at the back of this room into a magical clock tower beyond. On either side of these stairs and its crystal side-lights, there sit a pair of two unmounted painting frames along the floor. Leaning up against the bookshelf walls, these picture frames each have their framed image obscured by a small vertical UI menu centered over the picture holder. Each menu lists clickable names of worlds with a portal activated beside each menu from having one of the list items clicked. These four portals and four menus line the in-game screenshot from left to right, two to the left of the staircase and crystals, two to the right. In that sequence the names above the activated portals read: "Scanner", a slightly clipped "RESONARK 4 ELVES Pt. 1 - RhythmGame - v4.1.8", "Losange...", and "A.venue Pub" with the world thumbnail depicted underneath inside the corresponding portal.

Not quite sure where this hop's comfort level is with pics showing avi/name how my album vids do, so I'll keep it to world shots and folks I can see on here to shout out like @collecthisphotos.bsky.social in that last one here! How... photogenic? o7

In-game vrchat photo looking through the middle of numerous sea plants that look like coral with a small fish in the far upper right visible through them In-game vrchat photo of a far-off orange light glow whose bloom appears on the surface of water structuring the shot symmetrically across the top and bottom with a darkly lit silhouette of a slightly closer hangout building caught in-between. A tree shoots up from the roof of the building to break the symmetry, just slightly off the photo's center, similarly in shadow because of the photograph's position looking toward the big light glowing in the otherwise dark sky. In-game vrchat photo of the photographer's waist-up avatar from behind and slightly angled, positioned along the lower-left third of the shot. The avatar stands with a barely visible hand close to the chest taking the photo, cast in silhouette by an overwhelming bright light from off the left side of the frame with a strong bloom that washes out the rest of the ethereal sky In-game vrchat photo taken through the water of a pond looking up at a blurred canopy of pink cherry blossom styled trees overhead under a daylit, somewhat cloudy but otherwise blue sky. An avatar based on the entity Slenderman crouches along the edge of the pond at a distance from the camera but looking eyelessly down at the photographer -- exact details likewise distorted by the water's surface shader displacing the view, but also a bit of glitch-like distortion causing some anomalies over the lower right third of the image. Not quite the finely granular TV static but instead more like the artifacts in a compressed photo.
A key example: do you like to sort horror worlds separate from other adventures? To me they're likely the biggest source of adventure worlds in VRChat! (Esp when tags often take a space to self-identify content_horror.) ... despite me being the little jumpy baby among my friends 😭 a monkey paw mood
Progress! My friends have been pointing out subgenres they do that I don't, and it's reveals cool nuance in how we explore and curate! Any "genre" of world you think might be missing? (note: alt text has a neater list) #VRChat #VRChat_world
Same image as in the quote post with annotations filled out to assign a world "subgenre" per photo frame in the layout. Breaking that down in neater form, it has:

Photo holders 0, 1, 2, and 3 = "maybe use for Quest-compat[ible] lists since they're at spawn"

4. Avatar Worlds
5. Game Worlds
6. "Unused! (maybe for adventures?)"
7. Chill Worlds
8. Surreal Worlds
9. Other Portal Worlds
10. Visualizers
11. Tech Worlds
12 and 13 = Ports and Adaptations of IP worlds (games, anime, film)
14. Meme Worlds
15 to 19 = "I'm thinking to use for 'Creative Hobby' hubs e.g. art museums/painting, dance, photogrammetry..."
20. "Unused! (maybe for photography?)"

Noting these are scattered over the environment but the player would encounter 0-3 at spawn, then the middle floor which holds 4, 5, and 9 but 9 (i.e. the one labeled for "other portal hubs") is located slightly out of the way in the farthest corner from where a player would circulate. From there the basement holds 10-14 whereas the top floor of the three holds both 6-8 as well as (a little further away) photo frames 15-20.
Those moments are always some of the best sparks of joy, absolutely! \o/ here's to hoping they continue alongside learning the craft 🙏
Great job framing the light with the trees! ♡
Going to #vrchat dance events moving along to a video player together feels like a kind of amateur storytelling brought to full through performances like I've witnessed at Furality before, not to mention what #FurryVR do with drawing! so I really appreciate this thought applied to keyboards too. \o/
HAS NO ONE ELSE EVER THOUGHT OF THIS⁉️⁉️
#furry #furries #vrchat
Insecure to post it solo out of worry it'll upset a world maker but -- and maybe it's being a gamedev, maybe it's being a goober -- I genuinely find a beauty in these views few actually look at along the lines of glitch art or game map x-rays. Am I being silly to worry like that?
An owl avatar hovers over an out of bounds area in a VRChat map. A long expanse of rocky-textured tunnel exterior reaches from the bottom right to the top left but runs into a flat planar texture in the distance. A skybox of sunset or perhaps sunrise colors spans the top of the VR photograph. Something like water to either side. A slight fisheye distortion plays up the scale along the tunnel.

Taking it easy today, just a peek at my silly brain seeking to map out how I want to distribute a particular remake of my old portal hub homeworld using this #VRChat environment I 💸'd last week. It won't be "the best" HQ for world explorers though; I always want to live co-op > PvP, when possible. ♡
A top-down image of the VRChat world "Clock Tower 2" by WispyWoo but annotated with numbers corresponding to the default locations of the picture frames. The numbers appear in three colors with a legend up at the top-left of the image stating red = bottom, green = middle, "purp" = top. These correspond to the VRChat world's vertical 3-floor layout. A few of the numbers have slightly smaller font size to indicate the relatively slightly smaller picture frame size.
