I think we’re about to see a head to head test of two competing explanations of the weakness of the Democratic Party among the working class. One is the “it’s the economy, stupid” theory. The other is Sabato’s contention that it’s really about culture war and racial issues.

But after the administration’s attacks on the FBI, the CIA, and USAID, I have to add a fourth: national security. Trump is throwing the very agencies that protect us from terrorists (foreign and domestic) into chaos at the worst possible time. This is a nightmare scenario. An immediate danger.
