We deserve bodily autonomy.

From abortion, to gender affirming care, to the clothes we wear – it's our body, our choice.

As members of a community that is often targeted by hate groups, we believe that laws to protect our communities from these groups need to be balanced with the need to ensure that all people have the right to protest and freely express their views.
Some far-right groups have used face coverings to avoid charges, however this does not mean that the general public should lose the right to protect themselves from the dangerous, and often indiscriminate, use of pepper spray, and from viruses like Covid-19.
Stopping people from wearing face masks at protests prevents many people from exercising their right to democratic participation.
Additionally, banning masks and face coverings will impact many people that are disabled, immunocompromised or who care for people who are, who wear masks to avoid catching or spreading Covid-19.
Giving police powers to 'stop, search, and seize' will likely result in the profiling and unfair targeting of many minority groups, particularly people of colour and First Nations people, but also trans and gender diverse people.
They will make protests less safe, give police new expansive powers, and make it harder for everyday people to have their voices heard on important issues.
The right to protest is fundamental to a healthy democracy.

The Allan government's proposed anti-protest laws are a political stunt that undermine our democracy.
