Thanks for sharing this @havehashad.com - a ☠️ for all the 4-legged friends we still miss.

P.S. If this isn't enough 💔 for your day, torture yourself more with this other thing I wrote: "Deadlines" (issue 28, Black Fox Lit Mag, free download @ blackfoxlitmag.com).

Writing Fact I Just Made Up But I Don't Know, It Sounds Like It Could Be True:

87% of all books are fueled by tea, scones, chocolate, and coffee.

The other 13% is written in the shower.

Congratulations, Melissa!

Your haiku invokes such a cozy, warm scene and I'm grateful (another intentional pun!) to have read it & appear in this issue alongside you.

SAME.

<checks date on phone> darn, it's still only October 13th.

<checks date on phone> nope, also still October 13th.

<checks date on phone> how is it...still October 13th?

I hope so, because that's exactly how I feel too. 🫣

A #LiftToTheSky to @alanparrywriter.co.uk, who does so much for the writing community. #PoemsAbout is my favorite corner of Bluesky, because (even when I'm not brave enough to post) it challenges me to keep writing, revising, and engaging with others on the same journey.

Cheers to you, Alan.

You usually have to be signed up to our newsletter to read it. However, this week is too important, and I wanted to share it more broadly.

I wouldn't say I enjoy it overall with the exception of 90-degree summer days. Then the rain is welcome and refreshing, because it's a warm rain that washes away all the sweat and the pollen, such that I can briefly appreciate being outside. ☂️

Thank you, Helen! Sad, for sure, but reflecting on and writing this was also empowering.

So true.

BLACK BEAUTY is probably still (alas) the best-known horse book, but HEARTLAND used to be pretty popular. I like the idea of comping to TV! Could SPIRIT RIDING FREE be another option? 🤔

"the endless fray of being me" perfectly sums up this theme. 💙

Thanks for the heads up!

I didn't know about Savvy Authors.

Breathtaking, Helen. I especially love the meaningful use of spaces in the stanzas.

Thank you. That's what I love about haiku--three lines that lead to an unexpected "Oh!" moment.

The Night Gardener is one of my personal favorites. The opening page--WOW! In the past when I booktalked this novel in schools, I read just this section out loud and told the kids they'd have to check out the book if they wanted to know more--it worked every time!:
The first page of THE NIGHT GARDENER by Jonathan Auxier.

Stunning! I especially love the space/hyphen in line three, to visually signify the hush.

How fun, Jo, and ribbit-ingly haiku-ed.
