COVER REVEAL!

'Devon's Forgotten Witches 1860-1910'

which I wrote with @folklorepod.bsky.social is out later this summer, and uses newspaper archives to explore obscure incidents involving Devon witches.

Art by @pj-richards.bsky.social

Image shows the cover reveal of 'Devon's Forgotten Witches - 1860-1910', a book by Tracey Norman and Mark Norman, which is published by The History Press and comes out in late summer 2025. The cover is a pointillage image featuring charm bags, small medicine bottles, playing cards and a knife, swirling around a central lozenge-shaped frame in which the book title and author names are picked out in white text against a deep purple background. The frame is decorated with filigree elements, and is topped with a triple moon. Below, a pair of cupped female hands are releasing all these items into the air. The design is by PJ Richards.
The image itself is titled 'COVER REVEAL' and presents the book on a deep purple background with white filigree designs in the corners top left and bottom right, echoing the designs in the cover art.

Just to let you all know that aside from the illness in my family that is having an effect on content, I have to go into hospital next weekend for some minor surgery.

I will try and bring you episode this week - but it may be a little rough around the edges.

Dido the Archives Cat is being Very Helpful today.

She has decided to take the day off from being a furry trip hazard.

Pictur of a black and white 'tuxedo' cat lying on a black bean bag in such a way as to make her look like she has fewer than the usual feline allocation of feet.
It's October, and therefore time to ask,

"Where's Pipes?!"

I have no idea if the #NationalSeance will move to BlueSky from the Other Place, but I'll be watching #Ghostwatch at 9.25 on Halloween night.

Will you?

Image shows a tiny figurine of 'Pipes', the entity in Stephen Volk's brilliant GHOSTWATCH. In an unusual daytime sighting, Pipes, with his long, dark dress-like garment and his ravaged face, is inspecting my various Dracula DVDs.
My merch haul from the brilliant #HellTorFestival in #Exeter last weekend. Looking forward to reviewing all of these.

Merch haul from the brilliant Hell Tor Festival from Carrion Events, which takes place in the Exeter Phoenix. Image shows the following titles: issue 46 of Haunted Magazine; Borley Rectory DVD; flyer for Claire Louise Amias's one woman show Haunted Shadows - the gothic tales of Edith Nesbit (currently on tour, so check it out and see if it's on near you); Steve Nallon's Ghost Stories; House of Psychotic Women by Kier-La Janisse; The Good Unknown by Stephen Volk; The Frighteners by Peter Laws and Satanic Panic by Kier-La Janisse. I love @joannechocolat.bsky.social 's advice. Thank you. 💜
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 18167:
There is no "typical reader," just as there is no "typical writer." Your first responsibility is to yourself; to create the most honest, well-written, carefully-researched story you can. Finding readers comes later.
I haven't seen any comment online, and am not local to Crediton, so I'm not sure!
I'm really looking forward to this talk!
