It's a type of game I can enjoy and can be in the mood for but it is not my preferred type of game, and frankly if you're more into Videogame Ass Videogames, that shit does *not* land.

It's a niche that a lot of people fall into in some capacity but it is still a niche; you have to be into games that try their best not to "feel" like games. You know, a reduction on as muc Videogame Ass Videogames aspects as possible in the pursuit of Ludonarrative Immersability or whatever.

Halo 1 I can't comment on, Half-Life 2 I do think earns its stripes for what it is- fairly forward-thinking ~Emergent Gameplay~ FPS with a mahoosive emphasis on immersion and storytelling- but what I think gets glossed over when singing its praises is that that kind of game has a specific niche.

but the seller I brought it from neglected to mention that the CD was actually flat out cracked- but only through the portion of the disc where the samples are burned, meaning it is impossible to extract them. years later, and it still hurts 🥲
