Mark Williams won his maiden ranking title on home soil at the 1996 Welsh Open. His highest break that week in Newport was just 74.

The new British Open champion is going for back-to-back ranking titles, and he is into the semi-finals following a 5-3 win over Ding Junhui during which he top scored with a 121.

Murphy has now won his last 12 matches on the pro tour.

Ronnie O'Sullivan stays on track for a record-extending 42nd ranking event title.

The Rocket made breaks of 135 and 100 during a 5-2 win over Jak Jones to set up a Xi'an Grand prix quarter-final with Gary Wilson on Saturday.
