💡 Cheaper energy bills AND reduced emissions?

Our new report finds that Australian household energy bills are set to halve by 2050, leaving room for the federal gov't to cut emissions in the electricity sector without hurting households.

The hard work of giving Australians a view into a future world of unchecked climate changes has been done by the Australia Climate Service. It reinforces the current world of floods and fires for many Australians. We must act on the science and the facts - www.acs.gov.au/pages/nation...

Good industry policy is needed to navigate the transition to net zero effectively. Bad industry policy is fraught with rent seeking. The Future Made in Australia provides the basis for the former but it needs to applied rigorously:

The proposal for Santos to be foreign-owned will test Treasurer Jim Chalmers on Australia’s national interests. It would be easier if we had a clear policy strategy on the future role of gas in the Australian economy:

It shouldn’t leave the field to those who insist we should stop all gas now, and those who argue gas will be around for many decades yet.

The federal Opposition is right to focus on gas. We have multiple problems - looming shortfalls, climate emissions, and high prices. But “Drill and reserve” falls way short. We need a real Future Gas Strategy - what is the role of gas over the next 20-30 years?

Coalition’s pledges to increase supply and thereby reduce energy prices for Australians are eye-catching – but do they stack up?

Power prices are set to rise again, even though renewables now account for 40% of the electricity in Australia’s main grid. But why? Aren't renewables meant to be cheap?

The question you should ask but don’t expect a simple answer: theconversation.com/renewables-a...
Renewables are cheap. So why isn’t your power bill falling?
Solar and wind farms make power very cheaply. But power bills are still climbing because we underestimated other costs, from transmission to storage.
