Thanks again Alan! And thanks for getting #BirdOfTheDay going and maintaining the impetus with Rob. I'm very much enjoying it, although I'm afraid my posts will be intermittent for a while.

There's definitely a #beakful in there somewhere for Alan's #birdoftheday

Yes all sorted during a break in the rain thanks Alan 👍

Apparently it's #UKFungusDay so here's a phone snap of a pink waxcap I found in a new spot in our fields a couple of weeks ago. I've found them in a couple of other places before, but it's good to find a new location.

Thanks Helen. All safe & warm but blocked in by a big oak branch across the drive as feared. My chainsaw isn't working, but I have various other options and we'll be fine. My wife is back home recuperating after her shoulder replacement op this week, so I'm keeping busy!
Hope all's well with you

We probably only had 60 mph gusts, maybe more as it was worse than forecast. I also have an electric chainsaw and two extension cables might get there, but not while it's raining⚡ Neighbour with chainsaw half a mile away and son with chainsaw half an hour away. Regular event for us in rural Cumbria!

Glad you've got power back! We have a huge oak branch blocking the drive and my chainsaw isn't working! 🤔 It's raining too hard to do anything about it, and I wasn't going anywhere anyway 🤣

Here's a nuthatch in the sleet for the very apt #BirdOfTheDay #allweathers theme. I think we might find some trees or branches down in the morning. Hope everybody is staying safe!

A year ago, I had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful Hoopoe that had arrived near Swansea Bay, Wales.
I waited a week until all the "twitchers" had gone, and had great views of it - a bird completely unbothered by my presence.

Thanks Helen! All OK, just v busy with family stuff & training a new puppy, having lost the older of our dogs in June, much missed mum to our other dog + 3 other family dogs. No time for 📷 or 🦋 & my wife has a shoulder replacement op next week so I'll be even busier!
Hope all's well with you too.

Many thanks for this - there's definitely a good few people giving themselves a hug! 👍

Of course the British use miles. I believe some of the colonies do too...

Beautiful shot Linda!
And yes, that's definitely looking north across Grasmere (lake) towards the village and Dunmail Raise.
