One of the interesting things about existing Commonholds is how atypical they are as communities and ways of living. Whilst there need to be communal decision making options for all Commonholders the level of involvement will likely be less full on for most www.theguardian.com/society/2025...
New flats in England and Wales may soon all be commonhold. But what does it mean?
‘It’s very hands-on,’ say neighbours in a commonhold Bristol block set up 15 years ago and managed by the flat owners

Commonhold is not merely an alternative to leasehold ownership, but a radical improvement on it.

The publication of our Commonhold White Paper today is the beginning of the end of the feudal leasehold system.

As someone who has reported on AI for 7 years and covered China tech as well, I think the biggest lesson to be drawn from DeepSeek is the huge cracks it illustrates with the current dominant paradigm of AI development. A long thread. 1/

"no matter how hard you crack down, people will always move and smugglers will always adapt, and the politicians to your right will always say that you haven’t gone far enough"
I wrote on Starmer’s “smash the gangs” slogan & the danger for Labour of learning the wrong lessons from Trump’s victory.

“voters reached the obvious conclusion. If the border had to be sealed, & more spent on smashing smuggling gangs – Trump would do it better.”

People smugglers aren’t terrorists, and “smashing the gangs” won’t work
On immigration, Labour seems poised to learn the wrong lessons from Trump’s victory - and make the far right more likely to win in the UK, too. But there's a different path.

This feels like an idea that needs to happen but has to be part of a package of transforming transport. Road charging could arrive quickly but more public transport, cycle infrastructure, 15-min economies are all much longer
Exclusive: The secret per-mile road charging plan developed by TfL that would have transformed London's roads, air quality, and carbon emissions - and how it was dropped by Sadiq Khan.

Sadiq Khan and Transport for London were on the cusp of transforming the capital's roads. London Centric has all the details.

I've been working on a talk for service design and agile and I'm constantly confused by how some basic stuff is received with wide-eyed wonder in the design community. Service designers are process people and agile is a famous process it feels like we should get along much better than we do

I'm interested in the idea of trying to design or hijack media ecosystems for progressive / left ends. Labour graphic designers (not sure they're here) were a group connecting candidates with designers for simple campaign material ends

A project I have been working on sporadically for a while is looking to imagine a new way of home ownership, building on legislation that falls short to deliver a useful and need service. Find out more about Commonhold and some ways forward. medium.com/@tom.gayler/...

This morning I had a dentist appointment, taking me out of my way and past The Word, an independent bookshop in New Cross. Feeling good…
