A reintroduction for this new site. I'm Karen, I've been married for almost 11 years. I am infertile and vocal about it, especially how the church treats us. I've been reexamining everything since 2016 and am just trying to Love God and My neighbors at this point. I have ADHD and embrace the weird.
So when people say that churches should step into the gap they are either ignorant of the size and scope that would be required, or they really just don't care about those suffering around them.
And the PK told me I was a FOOL for thinking people should care about my brother dying since HE WAS NEVER A MEMBER. It didn't matter that I was a member in good standing until I got married and moved. His lack of membership was the excuse given to absolve them of doing the bare minimum of caring.
The church I had gone to for most of my adult life prior to marriage did NOTHING to support me. I didn't need money, or resources, just some proof that people cared.
The second reason I am not surprised is I know first hand how little churches care when the rubber meets the road. In 2019 when my life was blowing up with the death of my brother there were individuals that stepped up but the churches I had been involved in absolutely failed.
Protestant churches are too fragmented to step into the gap. That is just a simple economic fact. The Mormon Church and the Catholic Church are the only 2 with the size and money to step into the gap
The rest were too small for that kind of things, running at around 50-100 members. A church of 100 people will never have the bargaining power to get the prices as low as a large city/state/country wide food bank will.
By now most people have heard about the woman calling churches asking for baby formula for a 2 month old baby. I am not surprised by the results for 2 reasons. One: I've been in churches my entire life and only 1 of them operated any kind of food pantry.
People are fed, have healthcare and can afford to live.
Charlie Kirk said he was fine with Children Dying so that he could own a gun. In that same vain, I'm fine with some people abusing SNAP so that kids don't go Hungry. We are not the same.
calling this now, Vance will divorce Usha and will be married to the Maga Pundits Widow by the end of next year. And the same people who condemned me for being the daughter of divorced parents will cheer him on.
One thing is clear especially after yesterday there are 2 major camps in America: those who are known for their hatred of marginalized groups, and those who are known for the love of marginalized groups.
“The scandal of the evangelical mind is that there is not much of an evangelical mind" Mark Noll
I haven't watched the video but I am aware of the book. It's on my list to read.
Comparing Trump to Christ by saying that no king is about Christ is blasphemy and is just one more way that evangelicals have bowed to an Antichrist.
Nothing like watching religious people puff themselves up over refusing to celebrate Halloween while they refuse to call out the Nazism in their own camp. White washed tombs.
For a palate cleanse who is your favorite Stormlight Character?
Yeah probably. I was looking at the book but my brain just did its thing.
Correction: John Green is the author
Ach your right. Grr. I was even looking at the book but my brain betrayed me
For the first time in Human history we have the ability to cure a vast array of illnesses and yet we lock them behind impossibly high price tags. The number is incalculable how how many people die because a CEO needs another mansion. It doesn't have to be this way.
For the first time in Human history we have clean water for every one and yet 9,500 people die every day of unclean water.
Listening to Hank Green Everything is Tuberculosis and I've come to the conclusion that we live in the Most TRAGIC time in history.
For the first time in Human history we have enough food to feed the world and yet 25,000 people starve each day.
What is your favorite Sanderson book?
Oh yeah I've had a passport since I was 16 and I make sure to always renew it.
