To embrace traditional kitchen ideas, opting for a plate rack with a natural wood finish adds rustic appeal to a scheme. Dark wood in particular works in more classic kitchens, whereas a lighter wood would feel better placed in a Scandinavian kitchen.

Sam Allen finished a job with a homeowner’s gorgeous antiques (some in a caramel wood tone), and the light gray we put on this chair and the walls (right) really makes that wood sing.

When gray is paired with a warm wood tone, the wood becomes the color in the room. And that’s enough.
