NEW ARTICLE - On Life and Death (Stranding)

I played Death Stranding in May/June as part of my ongoing Kojima review series and it overlapped with the some of the final months of my mother's life who I had been caring for for the last 3 years. This article is me unpacking all of that

Enjoy.
On Life and Death (Stranding)
I spent the last three years of my life caring for my mother who was dying of terminal cancer. She passed away in August and in the months prior I played the original Death Stranding both to prepare f...

3. It Follows (2014)

Interesting exploration of trauma and coming to terms with the inevitability of death. Very 2010s in its positioning of a guy with big nerdy 'nice guy' vibes as the ideal partner though.

Overall a good watch

(yes this is because i am yet another grown adult staring at overpriced shiny cardboard as a means of nostalgia flooding my brain to escape everything™)

Learning that the state of pokemon tcg buying has now progressed to people buying imported korean sealed product because the english *and* japanese sets are now too expensive

2. Resident Evil 2 Remake (2019)

Did my casual playthrough of this before last year ended but I'm continuing to get great value out of it with randomizers and learning the speedrun.

The lack of tank controls is ultimately a downgrade but it's a highly competent modernisation of a classic.

1.) One Cut of the Dead (2017)

One of the cooler films I've seen in a *while.* It's very funny, has a great use of one long continuous shot (hence the title) and demanded an almost instant rewatch. Don't want to say too much more than that but I highly recommend!

Thought doing a here's all the media I finished in 2026 thread would be fun so here we go!

(And then sometimes it is genuinely the most unhinged story you've ever heard)

Watching video essays titled "Why Japan HATES this female celebrity" and it's almost always just that they had a sex life and didn't like how weird the worst fans of their work get

Discovered this horror film essayist this week and like half of his thumbnails say "This Broke Me."

The videos themselves are fine enough plot recaps with light analysis but clickbait really works in silly ways sometimes

The joy of watching new people play Kingdom Hearts for the first time and seeing them go from "haha isn't the silly anime disney game so quirky and weird" to inevitably crying their eyes out at some point never gets old

Watched Picnic(1996) last week and I keep going back and giggling like child at this scene of a guy falling off the wall

The jumpcut into canned scream sends me

Saw a resetera thread of Japanese Game Designers listing their top games of the year and I guess I am spending my christmas playing Urban Myth Dissolution Center

Kingdom Hearts and the FF7 remakes are peak because they answer the question "What if a game was menus AND parkour?"

Resident Evil Village luring you into a this is the re4 to re7's re2 feeling and then dropping the baby sequence on you is some devilish work

Here's every game I played in 2025 (for the first time/first time in a long time) ranked.

Tiers are ordered, asterisk means I haven't completed it but plan to go back/am currently playing

Might turn it into an article in the new year, couple games I'm playing atm could rise a fair bit and I'll be getting Yotei soon too.

The big spoiler is that Silent Hill F was comfortably my Game of the Year, that game is going to stick with me for a *while*

Ranked Every Game I put significant time into this year for fun's sake and realised the only game I put significant time into i actively disliked this year was Sonic Crossworlds. I still get overstimulated just thinking about that game

Did not watch the game awards but i just skimmed the trailers and the Control sequel at the very least has me excited, love me some remedy

I was gonna say the only other season on this par that comes to mind is the James Acaster season of Taskmaster and then Alex Horne randomly even showed up
December 9, 2025 at 2:23 AM
Been binging Game Changer and have made it to season 7, this might be one of the best seasons of a game show ever, every epsiode so far is among the best of the shows whole run

Can someone please give Guillermo Del Toro the misundertood 7ft monster to sweep him off his feet he so clearly yearns for already

Also I will get an audio narration track done at some point, have been sick with the seasonal flu all week and my voice is still cooked

When I sound normal again I'll do the recording

First draft of the death stranding article done, gonna sit on it for a couple days before I post in case I decide to make some changes, but I think it's turned out pretty good

I think I have a pretty compelling through-line for how the game tackles its themes of life and death though so hopefully it turns out good
