Maybe if we spent less time telling them their views were valid and showed them a different way of thought we wouldn't be where we are right now.
tmmtx.bsky.social
I 100% concur. Bernie has been right all the fucking time but my problem here is that we're giving media attention to willfully ignorant single issue voters and treating them as if they have gospel from God.
tmmtx.bsky.social
The same goes for every last political advisor that told Hillary and Kamala that they were doing great jobs on the campaign trail rather than telling them they were problematic and they needed to fix their shit.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Rich establishment Democrats are as much to blame for where we are right now as a nation as every last uninformed, single issue voter is. Schumer, Pelosi et. al. need to be kicked the hell out of office as fast as possible because they are a problem.
tmmtx.bsky.social
And see with this point I 100% agree establishment Rich Democrats fucked us hard. They went all in on betting that the coastal areas would save their asses because they were rich and they had connections there.

My political identity now says more about me as a predictor of social interactions than my income, education, or sexual orientation. Why? Because I don't want to have to listen to somebody justify genocide because they think Jesus is coming back from the dead.
tmmtx.bsky.social
So yes, while identity politics are horrific, we as a nation are now so fractured that there is no coming back from this to a country where we can all respect each other and have a conversation across the dinner table without needing a political strategist to negotiate Thanksgiving dinner.
tmmtx.bsky.social
I will not go into strong Republican areas where I live because I am now worried about being physically harmed because some asshole has decided that getting rid of the queer people is his calling from God.
tmmtx.bsky.social
I will not associate with somebody that calls themselves Republican at this point socially, fiscally ,or politically because their political identity is more important than understanding who I am as a human and that puts me at great risk in their presence.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Yes, we should all be trying to move the country forward, but we have a regressionist party that wants to segregate the entire country. You now have to deal with identity politics as the driving force of the political landscape in America full stop.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Here's my problem with the statement though. Identity politics are the new political landscape. My sexual identity should not be somebody else's politics but here we are. When my identity is somebody else's political platform and they intend to eradicate me, we've got a real issue here.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Back to my original point though this isn't about how they feel. This is about how the media treats them and that is entirely separate from how they're being treated by the government.

If you want the farmers to come out on your side across every last bit of media, just promise them a farm bill that'll give them a ton of money and they'll vote for you. But if you try and tell them that maybe they need to transition away from environmentally disastrous policies then you're fucked.
tmmtx.bsky.social
I watched a few Town Halls and they're finally feeling screwed but it's only because bad things are happening to them. If bad things were happening to other people and not them, they would still be voting Republican. And if Trump cuts them a huge check, they won't care again.
tmmtx.bsky.social
This this right here is the correct answer. You nailed it 100%.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Don't get me wrong. They're all right in fucking off, but it's a scary trade off in that nobody will be holding the Pentagon accountable which is what Kegbreath wanted anyway. He literally now has what he wants, autonomy without accountability.

The Ohio River valley has more political conversational clout in the United States than either the east or the west Coast. A farmer sneezes in Indiana and polls go wild. Every political piece during an election cycle has to involve some random farmer from Nowhere, IN, with their words being gospel.
tmmtx.bsky.social
They vote like it considering they voted for Trump and helped put him in office. So at that point they obviously think they're the center of the universe, especially since they knew he was just going to immediately tariff them again and they didn't care because they thought it wouldn't affect them.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Broader intent of the statement is that for some reason or another, we've given the full weight of the press to rural middle America. A mildly educated farmer has as much or more political conversational clout as an East Coast political science PhD.
tmmtx.bsky.social
That's fair if the conversation with the media was "let's ask people in Columbus what they think about how a politician is doing". Instead of "let's go ask some random soy or corn farmer how he feels about deep political problems" which is what it is.
tmmtx.bsky.social
Years later and I have the exact same argument I did when I first started getting into politics. Why did the "heartland of America" being Republican become the center of all political thought according to Media outlets. I don't get how Ohio is more important than New York.
