The greatest loss in our national response to mourning is a sense of propriety. There is so much awful tat that gets left at graves, none of it meant to last. It is just marking the moment for the individual leaving it, rather than any true act of commemoration.

The first proof of my Hoare Monument linocut design is complete.

I will be editioning a small batch of hand-burnished prints shortly and they’ll be available on my website or in person at my upcoming fairs.

I didn’t manage to get any proofs printed today, but I’m happy with the progress made.

It’s the first of two Harvest Festival services tomorrow, so I get to enjoy the delights of Parracombe church, and I might just get a couple of prints done beforehand.

I took a wander out to Loxhore church yesterday, across the estate and through the fields made by my ancestors.

Standing sentinel, a marker of the old boundary between Quarry Close and Easter Deer Park, is our youngest son Wilfred’s favourite tree.
