I write about Bugs Bunny cartoons and other facets of old animation along with general cinema interests at www.strawberrypenguin.ca . I am based in Atlantic Canada, where it is very cold and very windy.

The Bugs Bunny Project resumes. In this memorable outing featuring a larger-than-usual Elmer Fudd, Bob Clampett makes his debut on this series finishing a short that Tex Avery started. This is a wrap on 1941!

Released in cinemas December 20, 1941, Wabbit Twouble (1941) played for a different America than any previous Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies, as the first Warner Bros cartoon to premiere after the…

Just acquired. I really wish I had the new Huckleberry Hound Blu-ray so I could do a simultaneous watch-thru of the two major animated TV giants of the late '50s side by side, but it's too pricy for me (having just splurged on a PlayStation 5), so I'll do just Rocky for now.

I'm running a 50% discount on my patreon for the next week for new subscribers. A Black Lodge sale, if you will, and I'd appreciate the support if you're able or interested. I'm a professional author and film critic, but patreon is my main source of a stable month to month income. Thank you.
My TWIN PEAKS series is nearing its conclusion. The penultimate essay is live, and it is the first of two features on episode 18. I wrote about Diane, the structure of the 18th episode, the context of Laura Palmer's experiences, and how they are reflected in Diane's.

I have shown tremendous restraint* these past two days the extent to which I should be commended.

*I've only been watching two episodes of Beatles Anthology daily instead of three

The extent to which the archival footage on the new Beatles Anthology is remastered/upscaled/DNR'ed into oblivion wildly varies from source to source. I was worried it would all be Get Back'd, but that's not the case. Some of it is certainly ghastly, but there's a lot of fair and good looking clips.

The "I Am The Walrus" strings/ brass take (track 174 on Anthology Collection) with John's barely audible ghostly vocals buried in the back is sorta terrifying. Never clicked with me before that this sorta does Bernard Herrmann Psycho strings. The escalating tension in this recording is discomforting
Two big reissues out today that I've been waiting on - Replacements' Let It Be and Beatles' Anthology 4. Curiously, the latter also has a full "Anthology Collection" on music apps presented as a 191 song album combining all 4 parts. Sure, I'll listen to all of that during work this upcoming week.

The Beatles Anthology and Blossoms Shanghai launching the same week is the best/worst thing that could happen to me. How am I supposed to find the time to do literally anything else?

I loved all the PS1 and 2 Spider-Man games where you could explore the city, so naturally, these three "Marvel's Spider-Man" games interest me a ton. I'm sure I'll get into those soon. The new Silent Hill stuff looks appealing as well.

If anyone has some fave PS5 - or PS4 for that matter, as that console is also a blindspot - games, recommend away! I do like video games, even if I can get easily intimidated by them. Also, I don't do online.

Our 4K disc player was getting increasingly buggy with disc skips and was bringing unwanted stress to movie nights with friends, so Willow and I agreed to scrap Xmas gifts to each other in exchange for one joint gift. We bought a PlayStation 5. This is a fancy bit of hardware!

I wrote about DOG DAY AFTERNOON and its complicated legacy among trans viewers for my reader's choice series. My co-writer Caden Mark Gardner will be discussing many of these same topics tonight on TCM before this film is shown. Please tune in!

Adding to the conversation of "when did Aardman take off in North America", when Chicken Run was coming out in 2000, as an 8 year old I knew the style and was already obsessed with Wallace & Gromit. I vividly recall seeing the three shorts on YTV around 1998-9 with my dad and us both LOVING it.
Today for episode 38, we have one of the most anticipated episodes of @boxofficegross.bsky.social’s entire ‘05 season! The great Alex “@thamosdeaf” Watkins returns to go deep with us on WALLACE & GROMIT: THE CURSE OF THE WERE-RABBIT! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/b...
