Alicia Kearns spoke powerfully on the Today programme this morning about the Chinese spying case and the threat to our national security. Yet she, plus many MPs from all parties, Government depts and ministers, is still on Twitter. Musk is as grave a threat to the UK and should be treated as such.

In any journalism training, you are guided to avoid first person indulgence in articles. And then there’s Matthew Syed..

Also one for the membership to ponder, Johnson & Truss winning leadership through aping Churchill&Thatcher, Truss via insta (compared to her feed now), plus Badenoch and now Jenrick running their campaigns through an effective Twitter strategy. Maybe a closer look ar policy&suitability needed?

On media reward, I thought Sky’s report on recent MRP sensationalist & failed their viewers. You can perhaps understand it 4 weeks from an election, but 4 years? Why not focus on policy&delivery. When Justine Greening left politics saying she could have greater impact elsewhere, you can see why

Nothing in Syed’s output remotely represents the ‘sane centre’. If there’s a way to needlessly apply a pseudo-intellectual lens to a culture war issue he’ll sure find it..

Farage: ‘When it comes to science, I don’t trust anybody’.
The man stands directly against UK values and scientific achievement.

Suggesting Connolly’s views, calling for setting fire to asylum hotels, were shared by ‘ordinary people up and down the country’ is grim, inaccurate, irresponsible.

This is exactly the point. Ever since he became editor the shift right has been clear. I subscribe, and it’s reaching the point where I can’t justify it just to have access to the writing of rifkind sanghera and atherton..

I’m surprised the party so far hasn’t acted on her ‘Jewish Defence Force’ comment a few weeks ago.

BBC’s both sides on Gregg Wallace is odd: a) respected leaders of disability charities say Wallace shouldn’t cite autism as reason for his behaviour; b) ‘many people on social media supportive’ of his post, and Danielle and Jake calling in to Nicky Campbell..

Gregg Wallace faces backlash over autism defence
The TV presenter was criticised after he appeared to link claims of misconduct to his autism diagnosis.

Completely fair. My 8 year old would be nonplussed

Perhaps there’s a sting in the tale

This has Boris Johnson ‘I could have been back in Downing Street by Friday’ vibes to it tbh..

One of the fishermen’s friends has just been told by his bandmates that he’s been singing out of tune for the past couple of months

This is an important point: to use another eg, Bundestag in Berlin symbolises democracy, and learning from the past, being central to Germany’s present and future. Its identity is blend of the past and the modern-Foster designed the dome so that the people can keep an eye on elected decision makers

Also, across the political spectrum it was agreed Bloomsbury made the wrong decision. Biggar was then published by William Collins and is now in the Lords. He has a platform…

I always thought Penge sounded like a medieval illness

Interesting, thanks, and on the Meloni point in particular. I also think there are those who have varying interpretations of centre right, eg I find Danny Kruger’s worldview somewhat alarming yet he often places himself in that category.
timmaynard.bsky.social
In the UK, how consequential do you think it was when Johnson binned Stewart, Grieve, Clarke, Soames from the whip, in terms of the centre right losing its way?
timmaynard.bsky.social
It highlights where BBC has really struggled with multichannel. I grew up admiring Oakley, Sergeant, Pienaar& Marr, now I barely follow what Mason etc publish, as I get better analysis from other commentators. People may say ‘echo chamber’ but they are usually objective across the political spectrum
timmaynard.bsky.social
Exactly, still a visceral blend of personal and societal, all of which Johnson represents

It’s bonkers, and must be quite debilitating for progress

It’s bizarre how conservatives underestimate the depth of partygate trauma
