Enfin, mon projet de recherche actuel porte sur un ensemble de réflexions et de projets visant à repenser les espaces coloniaux de la France et de l’Espagne dans les Caraïbes au début du XIXe siècle dans un contexte de crise et de désintégration qui leur était commun.

J’y analyse les débats et les transformations provoqués par ces exils concernant le statut de « sujet » impérial espagnol et des droits accordés (ou refusés) aux exilés, qu’ils soient nationaux ou étrangers.

Une seconde monographie, en cours de préparation (révision), porte sur l’ouest de Cuba comme terre d’accueil de milliers d‘exilés français de Saint-Domingue (Haïti) et espagnols de Santo Domingo (République Dominicaine) entre les années 1790 et 1820.

Mon premier ouvrage, Conditional Freedom (2022), issu de ma thèse soutenue aux Pays-Bas, explore les trajectoires d’esclaves fugitifs du sud des États-Unis qui cherchèrent refuge au Mexique au XIXᵉ siècle.

Mes recherches portent principalement sur les migrations d’exil et les expériences d’asile – ou de refus d’asile – dans la région, avec les multiples contestations de l’institution esclavagiste en toile de fond.
