Bonfire of the Vanities is a crime novel and should be shelved on the Crime section in bookshops.
I’m glad you said that. I literally finished it yesterday, and had pretty much the same thought. Also, she was a woman on the train.
In other news today, the leader of the Conservative Party declares arts and creative courses as rip-offs. Apparently creative arts are so valueless, that this multi billion dollar tech industry can’t do without them 🤷‍♂️
JRRT was also clear that no creatures were utterly irredeemable, even going to show some orcs aspiring to a life away from the services of a tyrannical master, and others demonstrating traits of loyalty to one other. And of course, the hallowed elves could be real bastards when they wanted to be.
I’m guessing this would include Classics and PPE at Oxbridge, too?

This is the rare K1 Hull Cream Phonebox inside Telephone House on Carr Lane. It still has its phone fitted. The only other one in Hull is in Trinity Market but it's phone has been removed. There are only 8 K1's left in the UK including these 2

I only ever heard second-hand from my German relatives what the 1930s were like but it sounded like this. You see the story, it feels wrong, but everyone else around you is just carrying on, shopping, working, going to the cinema. So you do the same. Keep your head down, maybe this is fine? Normal?
Exactly. I’m deliberately minimising my own social media activities, not just because of the distraction and short attention problems, but ethically (they really are increasingly problematic with their array of idiot owner), but also cos the novelty isn’t there anymore.
As someone who was christened by a female Church of England priest inside a Catholic church, I’d say GBNews really needs to accept that there’s a lot modern Christians can deal with these days.
Better yet, send a raven 🐦‍⬛
Pretty sure there’s already a name for this… 🤔

When, or why, are all jobs these days being advertised for an ideal candidate with 'strategic vision'? What happened to 'relevant experience in a similar role'?
Okay, I’m fully up to date with Alien: Earth. Gotta say, with this, Andor, Severance, SF TV is really going through a golden age of quality shows.

We seem to be reaching the point where the only way to guarantee dissenting freedom of expression is through the reintroduction of corresponding societies, the printing press and pirate radio.

This reminds me of when I wrote my undergrad dissertation and included a chapter comparing Brave New World with 1984. It wasn't until years later my complete absence of research skills became apparent when I discovered that Aldous Huxley used to teach Orwell at Eton.
I think you're milking it now 😊

In case anyone is wondering, Emmy Awards are surprisingly heavy. My previous boss won one and had it proudly displayed on his office table. Obviously, while he was out, me and the admin staff held our own little awards ceremony.
'A lot of ground to make up?' Oh come on! Universities aren't the BBC. They shouldn't be fawning over Farage and his bunch of right-wing weirdos.

Just finished Val McDermid’ Trick of the Mind’, now moving onto something a little more punchy.
