In 1992, Sondheim provided the songs for a never-produced “musical movie about a movie musical” called SINGING OUT LOUD.

The movie was written for Rob Reiner to direct.

“Dawn” is one of those songs. Today feels like a good day to listen.

New today, a Sondheimian guide to musical meter.

You do not need to be a music theory whizz to read this! This guide takes you through simple & compound meters step by step, and digs into some more fun territory (hemiola! cross-rhythm!) along the way.
