Certification establishes the credibility, knowledge, and professionalism of wildlife rehabilitators who set a higher standard of care. It requires 50 hours of education split between 13 different disciplines, 5000 hours of experience, you'll need to pass a test and show evidence that you are practicing legally, and pay a fee. Certification is overseen by an independent nonprofit called the Certification Review Board, which establishes the certification process and may revoke status on ethical grounds. You can learn more or apply to become a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator at cwrexam.org!

Permits and licenses provide legal permission to possess wildlife for rehabilitation purposes. The conditions to become permitted or licensed vary regionally, but often involve showing that you can meet legal requirements for housing, medical care, and human safety - and usually fees. The laws and local government that has authority over possession and take of wildlife in a region generally has authority over wildlife rehabilitation permits and licenses, and can revoke them if you break the law. To get permitted or licensed, you'll need to contact your local wildlife agency to learn the rules and requirements. You can also ask IWRC at office@theiwrc.org if you need help!

This interactive, self-paced course will go over the signs of dehydration, how to estimate the severity of that dehydration, different types of fluids available and how to decide which one to use. You'll learn about different administration methods and practice giving fluids through oral and injectable routes during hands-on labs. You'll practice calculating how much fluid to give and learn what goes into an effective fluid therapy plan. And, because wildlife species often have differing needs and special considerations, you'll learn how to adjust your plan for each species you care for.

Mark your calendars and watch this space! Registration opens Monday, October 27! RACE approval is pending for 9.25 hours of Continuing Education.
