What we need to do is chuck all of these "deeply worried" Dems into the bin and replace them w/ folks like Mamdani.
Struggling with Stray Children and can't find any helpful info in English? Here's a great Japanese guide I've been using as needed: gamecap.jp/straychildren/ Just have your browser translate the text into English. Voila! ^_^
I should add that you *can* defeat Stray Children's enemies ("Olders") by whacking them w/ weapons, like you would in most other RPGs. I've only done it once so far, and it was fine, but it just wasn't as fun or interesting to me as trying to pacify them w/ words.
I agree! Even though a lot of the clues and solutions are a bit too obtuse for my blood, I still enjoy trying to figure them out. And like you said, when an encounter really clicks with you, the sense of accomplishment is immense :D
I also really appreciate what the team at Onion Games tries to do w/ Stray Children's story and characters. It isn't often you play a game, RPG or otherwise, filled w/ enemies who wax poetic about the many difficult and depressing aspects of life as an adult.
Stray Children is the second game this year (after UFO 50/Barbuta) to get me to keep notes via pen and paper, old-school style. That alone earns Stray Children some bonus points, in my humble opinion.
Despite what I said earlier, I'm still playing and enjoying Stray Children. I even like its battles, generally speaking. It's fun trying to figure out which word combinations will pacify an Older (the name for the game's baddies/enemies) -- sometimes w/ the help of in-game hints, sometimes not.
Ugh! I learned fairly early on to save after each successful Older encounter. I pacified three in a row without saving, only to die at the next and have to redo the earlier three :(
Yeah :( At the very least, I think they should have included difficulty settings for the battles. But even that wouldn't make the game a frustration-free affair.
Oh, that's too bad to hear :( Especially since I've already died a number of times while facing some of the early, non-boss Olders. I actually think I'd like the trial-and-error aspects of the battles if the Olders' attacks weren't so hard to avoid or didn't hit so hard.
You know, as much as I'm loving most aspects of Stray Children, I'm also finding certain aspects of it quite trying and annoying. I can't help but feel like a lot of folks might bounce off this game in frustration despite how beautiful it is otherwise :(
YES, plllleeeeeeeeeeeaaase!!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! I totally missed that encountering an Older's "carcass" in the wild updates the book, which then gives hints as to how to pacify them.
I tried running from one last night and succeeded. Tried killing one, too. I'm guessing you really don't want to do this a la Undertale, eh?
This is great info/advice, too. Thanks again!! I've only encountered one such carcass so far, but I didn't actually read its book entry afterward so completely missed this fact 😭😭
Ah, this is wonderful and so helpful. Thank you! I had a feeling I had to string different words together, but I wasn't sure until now.
If anyone out there knows anything about this and is willing to explain it to me, I'm all ears!
Although it's obvious when you first choose a "good" conversation option in a Stray Children battle, things get murky after that (for me, at least). Do I just spam the first "good" choice I come across until the baddie gives in? Or is the goal to chain good conversation choices, one after another?
I do have to admit I'm struggling a bit with Stray Children's battle scenes. In these tussles, you can fight the baddies or talk to them and get them to wake up and back off. The "talking" portion is what's tripping me up.
Stray Children gives off similar vibes to Chulip, Moon Remix RPG Adventure, Black Bird, etc. It's most similar to Moon, but plays more like Undertale. An interesting mix, to be sure.
I managed to put an hour or two into Stray Children last night. Yep, this is most definitely an Onion Games joint!! Beautiful, melancholy, strange... it's all there ^_^

And BTW, before anyone else says it, I know the bonus dungeons in Shiren titles are the real point of the game!
Oh, well, I still enjoyed myself. Maybe I'll return to it after Stray Children and try again -- without cheesing things. I could also tackle the bonus dungeons, of course. Some of them sound quite interesting!
I really fumbled my playthrough of this game, I've got to say. I spent sooooooo much time going between Canyon Hamlet and Mountaintop Town, collecting loot, buffing up my main sword and shield, etc. It all made the final 15 floors of the game a bit of a joke, which really isn't the point, IMO.
