Current political discourse summarized in a single image.
I wonder how much of this is a product of the current paradigm of things being 'objectively' good or bad to where people are now much less concerned with their personal vision as opposed to using shortcuts to align with arbitrary standards.
Also I should note that not all of these are from the 80s but still just as good!
And even though they're only partially in this realm Wong Kar-Wai's stuff is great as well and dabble in crime and violence and know how to aestheticize both so as to almost make them seem as alluring to us as it is to the characters.
Basically John Woo's films (A BETTER TOMORROW, THE KILLER, HARD BOILED, A BULLET TO THE HEAD) are all pretty great as well as Jackie Chan's POLICE STORY. I still need to watch more myself but I haven't gone wrong with any of these.
Now the alternatives I downloaded aren’t working. Fuck my chungus life
Accidentally uninstalled Musi because I thought it was a problem with my app but it was just the YouTube player. Didn’t know Musi got taken off the App Store. Now it’s no longer on my phone. Fuck my chungus life
80s and 90s Hong Kong cinema from the filmmaking itself to its advertising had such a specific vibe and aesthetic that is hard to find in other action and crime films… at the very least I wish we got more stark designs like this from movie posters
Incredibly engrossing film but the poster is also totally fucking sick as well which is a plus.
Trans people stop enabling the silencing of closeted, pre-HRT, or recently out trans people challenge, genuinely think some in the trans community genuinely are just bigots toward these groups and they don’t want to confront it because that requires realizing they’ve been complicit in oppression
If a trans person who has recently come out gives a take you don’t like, you can criticize them on the basis of their take, but when you do it because they’re ‘babytrans’ you’re basically saying that a group separate from this person that has struggled with being heard their whole life deserves it.
Factual information: The term ‘babytrans’ is creepy and gross
Mr. Beast video essays/manufactured drama videos now feel like they're their own industry where they all kind of say the same things we already know about the guy and still rake in thousands upon millions of views every time
Whoever the FUCK popularized the term media literacy needs to own up to their crimes
I also tend to inherently respect artists like him who disregard their audience. Yes, he does chase trends but he does so on his own terms. I have never seen a video of his where it feels like he is catering to anyone or anything other than his mind’s own images and ideas.
I am actually incredibly excited for the Dan Hentschel movie because I know that he has great cinematic works within him that he is more than capable of channeling as an artist. I could see him having a vision that’s as exact as a director like Brian De Palma
Sometimes it feels like art is just treated by people as less of an act of expression and a highly emotional experience and more a checklist and if you haven’t seen something on their checklist or don’t agree with a collective checklist then your opinions are inherently deemed as lesser.
There's definitely better ways to program a dialogue system then whatever the fuck I'm doing right now but I don't give a flying fu...ck
When you create a character that you genuinely love and then you realize the way you're clearly borrowing and being influenced by what you love couldn't be more obvious so your soul gets sent to hell
Stumbled across an insincere irony account I used to look at a few years ago on X/Twitter/whatever and found that they were still going at it and thought about how it must be at least a little bit miserable to keep up an online persona like that for this long
I recall the first intimate moment between Jeffrey and Dorothy in Blue Velvet, when they embrace after she pulls a knife on him. There is nothing rational about this moment, nothing logical, but it is an absolutely paralyzing sequence nonetheless. Many are unable to recognize this in art they love.
We live in a critical environment where people are unable to understand the emotional choices that artists make in their work. Everything has to serve the plot or the themes in every moment and nothing else. A moment cannot exist for atmosphere or pure visceral sense data, such as erotic scenes.
I do not trust someone’s TV opinions if they asked “Where are they going?” in the last moments of Severance season 2
YouTube channel called "AI Glazer 4353354": Wow guys.... AI is so fucking scary... watch this video and give me ad revenue to learn more...
