AI: It’s The Sam Old Story

From the new Private Eye, out now.
Polling: too much of a bad thing
Private Eye offers up an excellently scornful commentary on the relentless polling. It’s become ridiculous and has oversimplified our politics to dangerous levels of stupid and irresponsible.
Great no-nonsense write up shared here. Keep our NHS public and Human-centered.
Labour's manifesto promised "the NHS will always be publicly owned and publicly funded" 🏥

Rachel Reeves is considering breaking that promise with new PFI 💔

But 30 Labour MPs have confirmed they stand by the promise ❤️

It's easy to see this speech as just weirdly performative, but there's a lot more—and a lot worse—going on here.

The meeting & speeches are part of a larger project aimed at promoting the military leadership’s partisan alignment with the administration.

How? 1/
Hegseth: "If the words I'm speaking today are making your heart sink, they you should do the honorable thing and resign."
I'd love to have a efficient, user-friendly digital ID card like Sweden but it would need to be similarly decentralized and we need robust restrictions on the usage of our data. How do they expect us to trust a state cosying up to the likes of Palantir and repeatedly misusing private data?
One of the unexpected things I've learned from my advocacy for trans people is how malignant parts of the State can be, how it can misuse data for positively evil purposes. It's taught me people can't be safe with a digital ID card and so I've signed this. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/73...
Petition: Do not introduce Digital ID cards
We demand that the UK Government immediately commits to not introducing a digital ID cards. There are reports that this is being looked at.

Every new labour policy sounds like the first thing they wrote on the whiteboard in the ideas workshop.

It's party conference season. We thought it was time to see where each party stands on public ownership. 🔎

Some of the results might surprise you!

"Hope you find your paradise..."

I just got back from a camping trip to find that Rick Davis has passed away. It was his voice, piano playing and funk and blues influences that made Supertramp one of my favorite 70s rock groups.

The statement in the image is one line taken from our letter - 'Not In Our Name: Women in support of the trans+ community'.

If you agree, read and sign our letter and stand alongside 42K+ other likeminded women in the UK who refuse to be used as cover for discrimination:

A great track that has pride of place in my Halloween crate
I once excitedly lent The Cyberiad to a friend who had studied philosophy and they returned it to me unread saying it wasn't for them. I think that was an early lesson in "everyone doesn't think like you".
The Cyberiad and Solaris were my favorite books as a teen. I think Lem was one of the reasons I went on to study human behavior. I learnt about the fallibility of humans and our poor systems thinking, societal constructs and destructive colonialism. He showed us protest through art. Proud weirdo!

David Byrne came to my band’s show at a gay bar in Bed-Stuy and sang This Must Be The Place with us and I still haven’t processed it
Love it! We call First Class the crumple zone.
"The worlds of pop and rock owe a much greater debt to the classical canon than we realise.... from the experimentalism of Pierre Henry to The Beatles' 'Tomorrow Never Knows', from Stockhausen to Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' and from Bruckner to Sonic Youth via Glenn Branca."
Everybody is enjoying Brighton Pride 🌈❤️
