Having now finished the profoundly underwhelming "The Rose Field", the third book of Philip Pullman's "The Book Of Dust" Trilogy, I think I now know how we'd have felt if J R R Tolkien had published "The Hobbit" *after* releasing "The Lord Of The Rings".
