Can you forecast squalls?

The weather information we cruisers need is in our weather apps. We just need to know how to find it.

Want to understand the weather data you see on your screen?

Shoulder Season Squeeze In!
"What's that?" It's that last little activity you squeeze in on the final nice weather days before the winter weather settles in for good.
TBG's Kimberly Ward's squeezed in a kayak expedition to Ram Island in Mattapoisett, MA. What activity can you squeeze in this week?
Have you met Laura?

Laura helps cruisers at boat shows find pick out TBG resources. She also teaches ASA courses on the Chesapeake, sails her Catalina 36 s/v Miramar, & crews on deliveries.

If you come across Miramar on the Chesapeake, make sure to hail Captain Laura on the VHF and say hello!
What goes up, must come down.

After a great week at the Annapolis Sailboat Show, TBG's John Herlig spent days on water crew, breaking down the labyrinth of temporary docks, towing them through the Chesapeake, & putting them to bed until the 2026 shows.

See you all in 2026!

"The Boat Galley? I listen to a podcast called The Boat Galley!"
People would tell us this at the recent Annapolis Sailboat Show.
We'd respond, "Yeah, that's us!"
"YOU are The Boat Galley podcast? I love that podcast!"
Check out The Boat Galley podcast: available wherever you get your podcasts.
Calypso Chronicles - Fish on! Approaching Toau in French Polynesia, TBG's Nica & Jeremy caught 2 tuna, including this yellowfin. They now have 6 pounds of tuna in the fridge & all their boat neighbors were handed bags of ready to cook fish. Not having a freezer means you get to play Santa Claus.
TBG’s Larry Webber repaired his Fatty Knees dinghy: added a gunnel guard, attached custom leather protection on the stern, and repaired the blades of the oars.

Got questions about maintaining your dinghy? Come chat with Larry in person at the Annapolis Sailboat show this week!
How do you go from Dreamer to Cruiser? The steps are similar, but every dreamer's TIMELINE will be different.

In TBG's new course, "From Dreamer to Cruiser" we help you make a TIMELINE that works for YOU.

Like father, like son.

The Boat Galley's Larry Webber adds gunnel guards to his dinghy ("Fatty Knees") as his dad works beside him on a stripper canoe.

You can't predict when you'll get hit by a 50-knot squall.

It's best to always anchor for a storm.

The calm before the storm.

"Two hours later, we were in a NASTY chubasco on a lee shore. See that hole in the wall on the left? Every time there was lightning, we used it as a reference to check that we weren't dragging." - Carolyn, founder of The Boat Galley

📍Sea of Cortez: V Cove, near Loreto
The UPCOMING boat shows are quite the feats of logistics and dock engineering.

TBG's John Herlig - on the shows' Dock Crew - has been busy transporting & arranging the maze of docks you'll walk on at the Annapolis City Dock.

Come see it (& us!) for yourself: Annapolis Sailboat Show - October 9-12

Here's the before picture after we'd cleaned our teak and then after 4 coats of Teak Guard. We're super happy with the results.

Thanks to Carolyn at @theboatgalley.com for the product suggestion. ❤️

Adventures on the ICW: What a sewing set up!

After a year of sailing on the Atlantic Coast, s/v Catriona is getting her sails repaired for another season.

A bit tough to wrangle the sail, but you gotta love the Sailrite machine!
😳 "The bilge pump didn't actually pump water!"
😳 "The LifeSling isn't tied to the boat!"
😳 "That PFD just SANK!"

All phrases best said during testing NOT real-life situations.

End of summer means an end-of-season haul-out for s/v Catriona

TBG's Cruising Guide author, Larry Webber, has been traveling north up the East Coast so he can update our Atlantic ICW cruising guide.

After months of adventures, it was high time for Catriona to get some tender loving care!
Happy Sunday! Hope you're out on the water today.

Are you wearing your tether safely?

The ONLY clip that should EVER be attached to the PFD itself is the one with the quick release. When not in use, the other clip ends should be clipped back onto the tether, never to the PFD.
